Thanks, now my mouth is watering. They’re building a Popeye’s right across the street from me!
I always like their hot sauce packets. Wish I could buy a bottle of it in the store.
Just seen this and it’s time for a Navy cook to speak up:
Iced tea is mandatory but make it Sun brewed.
Your fried Chicken sounds good but I like to add some Cajun Seasoning and a bit of Cayenne pepper powder to the batter.
For take out, Kentucky Fried Chicken is still the best major chicken franchise. My sister and I actually met Colonel Sanders in 1973 when we were flying to Chicago. We were just kids. He was in 1st class and he wore the same white suit he always wore. I have eaten at the original Kentucky Fried Chicken and museum in Corbin, KY a few times.
Having said that, I finally found one I like even better. Ever heard of Gus’s Fried Chicken? They come from Memphis and they opened on in Knoxville (where I live) a couple of years ago. They even have Fried Green Tomatoes and everything is served so hot, you might want to let it cool before you bite into it.
I have learned to cook foods from all over the world but I still give respect to southern cooking, it’s a wonderful way to die.
A taste on my tongue alone would not be something I would trade my health for, so I am not tempted, but these comfort foods really grab hold of you on a deeper level.
As you may already know PRR, research continues to be published showing how entwined sensory perceptions and memory truly are. Songs, smells, the feel of something, how something looks, noises. I am very grateful for these memory aids as they help me remember those childhood memories, like yours, that are so very precious.

Not to spoil the food, but has anybody made fried chicken from scratch? Starting from killing the chicken then preparing it? I just wonder if it matters similar to the idea of killing sheep quickly so as not to stress the animal or something…So it might affect the taste of chicken plus considering the variety of chicken…And I am curious about the black chicken which has black bones and black insides on how it tastes….
I stand with feet apart and let my balls hang free...Manginas dont have balls...See how they stand and sit at the whim of their masters...
