Last weeks Easter holiday Offering didn’t go so well, which is a shame because those were great sections. YES I KNOW the kid DID look like Napoleon Dynamite! FINE! But let us put the past behind us and move forward.
JOHANN JACOB FROBERGER (1616-1697), raised in Stuttgart, studied with Frescobaldi in Rome between 1637 and 1641, then harpsichordist and organist in Vienna. His composition style is a synthesis of Italian and French music, with forms like Canzonas, Capriccios, Ricercaris, Fantasias, Toccatas. His fugues are considered to be direct forerunners of Bach’s fugues.
Thus a pair of short and in some ways surprising little works.
And to show just how well rounded Froberger was this harpsichord piece is awesome.

May the Perfect Peace of Jesus Christ be with you Pete.
Thank you for the music. I’ve been looking forward to it all day.

Anonymous2Great music Pete!
Needed it to relax after a crazy week.
I love the sound of the harpsichord!

The highest technology of it’s time. It machinates upon the mind.
Designed by whom? I know not, Sourced from the bounty of Nature’s Lot. Then built by the hands of unknown men, who’s unmatched skill has outlived them.
Technology created and built monumental, now needs an artist to realise it’s potential.
And where to draw the inspiration? from Nature? God? or earthly relations?
Music, take me to a higher plain or, more likely, accompany me in search of Sin again?

Well the music has just been paid the highest compliment possible—Greg has waxed poetic–and fine poetry indeed my friend.

Anonymous42it wouldn’t be friday without ya pete !!
gracias !Blades contribution is very interesting===its electronic but the polyphony and counterpoint are unmistakable. Clearly traceable back centuries to the classics.
Even though Strauss is outside the 1760 parameter’ WE will be doing some in the future! I promise.
Forgive me Ender I know I said I was setting aside a block for your friend — don’t worry we’ll get to him I haven’t forgotten my friend.Very nice Pete – not a Friday without your organ donation.
Haven’t heard any of his works. Very light and airy.
Great for ballroom. Thanks.Haven’t heard any of his works.
Thank you for the kind words. Actually that is the point. As you know I firmly believe that “western culture” is under attack. Art, science architecture, history et al is on the verge of disappearing from history—as it is written out by “revisionists”.
As a result I like to expose folks to art/music that they may not be familiar with or ever heard. Even if they don’t like it; even if they can’t connect to it in some way the exposure nonetheless makes them better men.
I like the notion of regular topic threads like mine. I think you could do a great one on politics/finance; and of course Stealthy’s Sunday night cooking tips is something I greatly miss. Some of the threads on mechanics, and “primitive” survival techniques are very interesting and informative. So yes I’m trying to start a trend.
I’m not saying I don’t enjoy all the threads about how crappy bitches behave, or the pics of them before/after hitting the wall but that stuff gets old.
I’m thinking about a mid-week thread on classical art or literature. Thoughts?
