GregBo is sicker than a dead dog–and that is pretty bad! Well he has been pestering me for months to put on some accordion music—ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Accordion? I wouldn’t do this for anyone else but he has been my best friend for 30 years…SO…As a musical instrument it has only been around since 1820, supposedly it was invented in the city of Tula, Russia. Although not an organ, sound is produced by bellows driven free reeds—so its a stretch but one COULD argue (I won’t) it is related to the organ in the same way harmoniums (reed organs) are related to pipe organs.

This leaves us with the quandary of what music to play. After all I’m suspect of anything written after 1760 so obviously there is no music written for the accordion from that period. But not to worry diligent research has again blessed us with rewards: So below is Bach on a SqueezeBox. (God help us! I need a DRINK and make mine a double.)

The shocking thing is that there is SO much of this—but four short pieces is about all I can take…actually it is surprising good; a testament to the genius of Bach that his works transcribe so well.
Zydeco it ain’t but if you’re just drunk enough…

Thanks for making the sacrifice. I for one like accordion music, in small measured doses. Will look forward to these for something different tonight. I like to make a nice meal on Friday and listen while I cook. Thanks!

Good taste defined: Being able to play piano accordian… and chosing not to. The irony of a pretty pipe organ in the background.
