Thousands gathered on motorways in a backlash against higher fuel taxes.

The demonstrators, part of a grassroots movement dubbed the “yellow vests”, caused logjams on highways and blocked roundabouts as they railed against the fuel tax hikes introduced by President Emmanuel Macron.

The protests, largely orchestrated on social media and which aimed to prevent road access to some fuel depots and airports, have also drawn broader support from some voters dissatisfied with Macron’s economic reforms and his governing style.

The problem is that they are protesting ‘higher’ taxes on fuel, after having never protested the taxing of fuel in general.

The power to tax fuel at a rate of 1% is the power to tax fuel at 25%, 50% or 75%

On a side note:

In 1918, the US income tax was 1% and was only on incomes in the top 5%

Now, in 2018 (one hundred years later) the US income tax affects almost everyone, has a myriad of code intertwined into it, that in book form would take up enough books to literally fill every seat in a football stadium.

It is very simple. Just like the original French Revolution, the French people looked at their accounting books, they realized the new fuel tax bankrupts them, and they have decided to protest, with the protests seemingly being turned into open defiance.

I love how the French people are using yellow “safety” jackets at this clothing symbol of choice. That is an insult in of itself towards those in authority.
