Just a PSA. Latest Equifax breach prompted me to freeze everything. Looks like a 30 day window from the incident to get this done at no cost.

    Unreal

Did you have any trouble setting up the freezes? I couldn’t get the automated systems (phone or online) to accept my info, and I couldn’t get through to a human.

I’m not a fan of government intervention in most areas, but I do hope that the regulators pound the s~~~ out of Equifax for their negligence.

The only problem I had is with TransUnion as I don’t believe they were prepared for the influx of activity and also could not get through by phone. It seems there is an update on the freeze page of their website stating that they are aware of the problem.
    here
Also, try making sure your browser is accepted by the sites- they do have that information listed.

Agreed and unfortunately I don’t think this is the last time this will happen.

The day after the Equifax breach made the news, my debit card had a $1.25 charge, along with a $1.25 credit identified as “usacanteen”.
I immediately canceled that debit card, and requested a new one.

Whatever you do, don’t accept the free “credit protection” from Equifax. You give up your right to be part of a class action lawsuit against them and absolve them of all liability for the breach. Also, the “credit protection” is just a monitoring service and doesn’t actually fix anything. It’s like those commercials that talk about being a monitoring service only (we don’t fix cavities, we’re just dental monitors), except not a joke.

Jackie: How do you write women so well?
Melvin Udall: I think of a man and I take away reason and accountability.

This was taken to court in New York state, and the judge told equifax to halt this. It no longer is part,of their terms and conditions, it was illegal and it’s gone, so you can sign up now, and not give away your rights.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

    Good move.

Did they offer identity restoration? I had signed up with MYIDCare after the Office of Personnel Management breach. Wondering if they were trying to get off the hook there as well.
    Incompetent morons…

I was unaware but thanks for including this.
