Even the most lustworthy and desirable individuals in the world cannot escape the passage of time. As the years tick by, looks slowly fade, what was once toned and firm becomes soft and loose. It happens to us all, but for those in spot of fashion and modeling, the decline is often more pronounced.

But if you’re able to look past the superficial, you’ll see that true beauty can defy the test of time. There are those whose character, charm and appeal is something innate, part of their DNA, part of their character and able to withstand even the harshest light of day.

Our friends at New York Magazine had the enterprising idea of looking through the Playboy magazine archives in the hopes of contacting several of the former cover models. They wanted to gain an insight into how their lives had changed since those heady days of desire and stardom.

My thoughts? It’s sad and I pity them for never really moving beyond their modeling days.

I expect the clowns at New York magazine to repeat the age old lies about “true beauty” and all the rest. They’re in the business of selling print advertising space wrapped around a few stories and photo features to a brain dead customer base feverishly fighting against the march of time. It’s natural that they’d lie about how wrinkled old hose bags really don’t look like wrinkled old hose bags.

But the models themselves? You’d think they’d have a firmer grasp on reality. They lived and worked in the belly of the beast. They didn’t get jobs and they saw friends fail to get jobs for the most minor of imperfections. They lived through the industry treating them like lepers once the first bulge, droop, or wrinkle appeared. Life did everything it could to teach them that they were mayflies, that their beauty was ephemeral. They of all us should be aware of that reality.

And yet they’re not.

It’s sad and I’d pity them if I didn’t know they’ve chosen fantasy over reality.
