…who have been undecided on the importance of wearing a full face helmet and jacket, even during the summer.

    From the description:

This guy merged onto the I-80E (Sacramento, CA) on his motorcycle as we were driving in the fast lane. As he merged, his bike would shake and wobble. He sometimes would only have one hand on the handle bars while it was shaking!! We couldn’t figure out why it was shaking, but we noticed it would only do it once he hit high speeds. We paced him for 5-10 miles after watching him “almost” loose control (about 5 or 6 times), so I got my phone out, thinking “its only a matter of time before he crashes” and I wanted the video as evidence in case anyone else got hurt. Sure enough the very moment I get my phone out, happens to be the time he loses control. We pulled over immediately…..called 911, and help the man (and his bike) off to the side of the road as quickly as possible. He did walk over to the right shoulder by himself. His face was really mashed up (his nose looked broken) and arms covered in blood. Crazy road rash!!! I still wonder how he’s doing 🙁
Oh, and the sirens you hear in the background aren’t because he’s being chased by the cops….my kids were watching peppa pig…..it was just a coincidence 😉

What was he hauling in his saddlebags? Jello? OMG! Bitten by the wobble! I had that happen on a ramp when I hit oil and recovered, but him, he did a 180! Correction, 360 back to a 180! he’s looking at many months of recovery, I feel sorry for him, We’ve towed cars that were used like felt tip pens held to a grinder and wearing down a dudes head, rollovers, especially the old rag top Jeep with the see through plastic suicidal doors. One Jeep I towed the guy survived the rollover by grabbing the roll bar above his head because he saw it coming but crushed his fingers on the roll bar.

His balance is way off on weight or the tree rake, or who knows WFT? 60/40 is the math, looks like he was way outside the envelope, like a poorly loaded truck and trailer.

Had what we call a “Tank Slapper” on my CB550k in the mid 90’s, I was on the freeway at around 80mph and the bars just started to shake as the front wheel wobbled.Tried slowing down, no effect. Then sped up to 110mph and it smothed out. Scared the s~~~ out of me. I was very aware from then on of any slight vibration in the Handlebars, Found out later that it’s a gyroscopic effect of the wheel. Guess it doesn’t happen so much on modern bikes, but those old 1970’s Jap bikes could be deadly.

Hey Greg, I wonder if it’s inherent with spoke wheels being they’re string like Galloping Gurdy with the rim being the roadbed twisting and distorting thereby swaying in and out from the direction of the axis, alloy doesn’t “flex”, it’s more ridged. I’ve had the wobbles coming out of corners too hard and breaking loose but nothing like f~~~ing STANDING UP ON BOTH WHEELS DOING A F~~~ING 360? The worst I ever did was over spin coming out of the Supperpipe and dropping in backwards and actually stick the landing for a yard sale up the other side! My s~~~ was spread out all over the place! That 25ft icy concave wall is JUST AS HARD AS CONCRETE! F~~~ing BLUE ICE!

I always wear full gear and also a Helite airbag vest when on my big 900cc bike.
Even during hot days I have open mesh kevlar armored kit.
My main hazard seems to be women with kids in cars. Attention on anything but the road.

Full face helmet is a must, open face although nice, gives much less protection.

Not me bro! My eyes are peeled and I give brother bikers all the rights of a pedestrian!

All steering wheels should have big daggers and knives facing the driver, then watch how much respect they have while operating a cage!

Always check twice and never let any direction get stale from not checking, I always make my moves slow after signaling just to give girth for anything that may be approaching at a high rate of speed and outside the field of vision, saved me a few times from a nasty collision, you just have to mentally paint where anything can be coming from at any given second, it’s being defensive and preemptive that will keep our roads safe, and that’s something a narcissistic phone holding, book reading, coffee drinking 2 ton monster charging down the road is utterly incapable of!

As far as I’m concerned the roads should be labeled ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!

    Yo MgTower,

So you had it too. I just managed to get it back under conrol, but it scared the living s~~~s outta’ me.

Your therory on spoked wheels makes sense. I only ride 250’s now so I don’t see 80mph much anymore and I’ve had no problems.

    You still ride?

Loose bearings in steering stem can cause that, also your tire will look like there is waves on it if it’s bad enough.i never wear a helmet unless I go off road.
