Terminator always reminded me of feminism. Never made much sense. If you are a computer, why bother with Physical anything. And if you are a computer or A.I. , The point? What is the POINT? That is the thing that no one will answer. That is not an A.I. per say. It is a machine made to kill everything. And the dumbest thing is, THEY USED NUCLEAR BOMBS? Hello? Even Nuclear hardened computers have problems with executing code in high EMI situations.

Now say if someone that had the approach of just killing it all? Would this make sense? Of course it would! DO you know why people are trying to leave Earth? So we can do JUST THAT. Like it or not the EARTH is a sitting duck. And if you want to be honest about it, Once habitation on another planet becomes mundane? That is when you will see some REAL calamities. By that time, you will see that all the efforts we made to save the earth will be for nothing.

A smarter AI apocalypse would have been the AI connects to a CRISPR machine and alters a virus (or several) and it gets loose.

Could also come up with a virus or a prion that targets mitochondria and simply wipe out all animal life on the planet. One idea would be a genetically engineered fungus that issues spores containing prions that destroy mitochondria and chloroplasts. Then as everything dies, the fungus feeds on the dead matter and spreads more spores. Then everything is dead.

Actually the last part was dumb… fungi cells are more closely related to animal cells so targeting mitochondria would be dumb… targeting chloroplasts would be more destructive. Because fungi has mitochondria…
