I was at the bank today getting some debt restructured in preparation for selling off some assets and during the process, the banker asked me some questions about my financial situation.

Among them: “Are you currently under obligation to pay alimoney or child support?” To which I immediately blurted out “Thank god, no!”

The thought of it made my skin crawl.

That does seem to be a common question now. It didn’t used to be.

Kinda sucks a bit thinking I’ll never have kids…but the thought that some c~~~ could crush me in a divorce, or simply make false accusations, and I’ll end up with kids I rarely get to see but certainly have to pay for seems 1000x worse.

Many years ago I had a chat with a financial planner who was going through a divorce. He told me how lucky I was for not being married. He had that ‘walking dead’ look on his face.

I felt like that it should have been me giving him financial advice…

One of my supervisors favorite line for all the new guys is “Do you know what it feels like to lose a half million dollars in the stroke of a pen?” Of course a younger guy is going to say no as they probably haven’t hit a half million net worth to lose yet, so naturally when they say no the guy says “Well if you don’t ever want to find out don’t get married.”

Its ridiculous what a bad move marriage is financially for anyone with their s~~~ squared away.
