The cool military jet animation for the mgtow homepage, stating “the end of the gender war” reminded me how cool jets are and some of the crazy pilots who push them to the limit.

Just played it on my phone, it’s loud, hope I didn’t blast anyone’s speakers too hard.

I like the one at 4 min 10 that trims the tree. Officially making contact with the ground. Insane!

And yeah they are boner material. Imagine piloting one!

I love watching the A-10s whenever they come to visit us.

I love watching the A-10s whenever they come to visit us.

In the seventies, my village was a “dummy” target for A10s from a nearby USAF base. They would circle low and slow, selecting local landmarks for virtual destruction. Us kids used to get on a hill and wave to the pilots. They were so low you could clearly see the pilot in his c~~~pit and they would often wave back. We loved it. The Americans were super cool, our friends and allies.

As Kids we didn’t understand the implications of the Cold War and why we had soverign American bases on our soil. All we knew was that anyone who lived in a country behind “The Iron Curtain” was a fanatical Communist who wanted to enslave or kill us all. We would rather die than submitt to their tyrany, (my Dad actually said these words).

Later in life I learned why an area of conflict is called a “Theatre of War” It’s because the killing goes on between the opposing actors on the stage in any particular Theatre of opperations, and the politicians and Generals direct the action from the safety of their seats on the balcony.

It occurred to me that in some envisaged possible future conflict scenario, between NATO and the Soviet powers, my country, my city, my village, and everything I’d ever known, could become a temporary stage for this travelling production, and I wondered what would be left of the land when the final curtain came down.

I still love to see a low and slow A10 though. Awesome ground attack machine. I think the Iraquis circa 1991 would probably agree.

    By the way,

    Thanks for the post Shin.

It led me to this video which I just find mesmerizing. The unearthly whine as the engines spin up then turns to something akinn to a dogs panting breath, before becomming the galop of a racehorse’s hooves at full pelt.

I love the smell of Napalm in the morning. It’s the smell of…………..Victory 🙂

Did anyone here ever fly one of these things? Or their family members?

    @greg:

Back when the local base was an open post, I used to ride my bicycle there. One does not speed on US military installations so it was a very safe place for me ride. The MPs were always friendly too.

I had an A-10 buzz me then execute an Immelman and had that 30mm nose cannon pointing right back at me in no time flat. I would have been dead meat. I think he was using me as a practice target. It was so cool. I would not want to be on the business end of one though for real.

I know that design is getting old, but there is nothing else like it. I love the sound of the engines too. I had two pass over me last month on final approach while I was driving. I knew what they were from the sound before I saw them.

I used to hate the old C-141s. They were too loud. C-17s are ghostly quiet except when they start their takeoff roll while fully loaded. God, I remember the sound of those Hueys too.

Can someone explain to me why helicopters are so damn loud? I live near a base and the Blackhawks routinely go over, sometimes quite low (occasionally we even get letterbox drops warning of night formation flying, not sure why they warn us). They are so loud! Surely the enemy hear you coming from miles and miles away.

Great question Shiny. Blackhawks are like seagulls flying around my place. The Chinooks are louder. People who stay with me freak out on the military aircraft buzzing around me 24/7. I love watching C-17s come in on final approach. It’s kind of scary to watch.

Someone on mgtow.com has the answer. I guarantee. I know propeller airplanes are loud too. The older jet engines were incredibly loud. I watched a 767 take off from the base the other week heading East transporting troops. It’s very quiet.

I’m no engineer, but I am an aviation rc guy. Hovering is extremely difficult. Some planes that fly 40 mph can’t nose up and hover.

Because of the amount of lift being generated on each rotation of a two, three or four bladed prop there is a large air pressure pulse. Think of it as a knife blade easily chopping through the material just to hit the cutting board.

All of that noise is a sign of inefficiency compared to the relatively quiet possibilities of pulling an airfoil through the air to create lift, but the maneuverability is unmatched in airfoil aircraft.

I’m just glad most Blackhawks stay up, they have a history of being gravity’s bitch.

I failed to realize in my youth that I was the prize. I was going to work. I was going to earn. Little did I realize that due to feminism, that no longer meant I had to share. Road soon, Desert after.

Thanks guys! And we’ve certainly lost some Blackhawks down here – Sea Kings too.

When the enemy hears them it’s too late, the missiles are already loosed.

Some Ride of the Valkyrie on loud speakers with the thump thump thump, wop wop wop will make any infantry mud their pants!
