Does anyone go out of their way to avoid patronizing female owned businesses or is that too hard core?

I don’t know many, but I think it deserves some credit and respect when a woman can run a successful business. Avoiding patronizing them would be misogynistic. If it’s a good business and provides good service or product – discriminating against it on basis of owners sex would be wrong. I would however discriminate against any business on its unfair practices or s~~~ty customer service.

So long as a business provides good service and good products at a good price, I don’t give a f~~~ who owns it.

That being said, when a business provides poor service and poor products at unreasonable prices, I’m usually not surprised to find a woman runs it.

A good product or service is a good product or service.

I don’t go out of my way to find out if such or such business is weemin’s owned. They won’t get rich with my money anyway as I have been living a minimalistic lifestyle for over ten years now.
I don’t buck the system, I f~~~ the system and pay out very little.

Not me. If I avoided a place because of women owning it, I would feel wrong. As long as their service is good or better and their staff isn’t offensive, I’ll come back with my friends. If they suck, then they suck. If not, then I’m down.

I don’t avoid their products or services, but I wouldn’t want to work there. Done that. Didn’t work out. Can’t be arsed to asses the risk next time. Too much work.

    I daw on a business card once…

    “A Woman Owned Business.”

Imagine the s~~~ storm if a man atated his sex and ownership status.

As women take over my company, I want out.

    Any questions?

Yeah, they have to brag about it being “woman owned.” Like I’m really going to go there just because of that! I say boycott them. Just boycott women in general. Prove that they are not needed by men.

I usually don’t know who owns the stores I work with, so no, can’t say I avoid them. Most of the women owned business I see are fairly basic and almost hard to screw up, like a dry cleaning or nail salon or something. My insurance agent is a woman, and so far she seems to be doing a good job.

I think I might be hesitant to hire a woman owned service to come work on my house though. Say for example, I wanted new floors put in, I think I’d be more hesitant to hire a woman then a man. I could imagine she would do a little less then what I expected, and then give me a guilt trip of some sort if I requested she do a better job. Women are master manipulators.

Kinda related, but the IT dept at my company (I work in IT) often hires contractors, which means we have headhunters from time to time. I don’t think it’s coincidence that the amount of business we give a headhunter is proportional to the shortness of her skirt and the size of her bra.

    Ok. Then do it.

This is a great topic. I agree with Russky, generally speaking, and think all discrimination is bulls~~~. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

    BUT…

When I hear women complain about the low numbers of women in positions of power – complaints that can be summed up as, “why don’t men create successful corporations then stack the Board with female directors?”, “why don’t men work their arses off to make this political party electable then hand over to a woman so she can be President / Prime Minister?” etc – stupid complaints not worth a reply – I think, “do it yourself”.

And some women do – they start their own businesses, big or small.

Good for them. They, of course, stack the directors or positions of authority with women.

That’s their prerogative, it’s their business. While I object to chain stores hiring all women (which stops ordinary men getting jobs) I have no problem with the owner of a business having whoever the heck they want around them.

They will ALSO count on women supporting and patronising their business.

    So… why shouldn’t I support and patronise a man’s business?

Given the option – support a struggling man or support a woman who has the whole ‘sisterhood’ behind her – I’ll support the man, and sleep well afterward.

Given the kinds of businesses, at least small businesses, that women decide to run, I usually don’t frequent them because I’m not looking to buy what they produce.

A bakery might be the rare exception.

Female owned businesses? Like what? Hair salons and more hair salons, yeah we really need a service to provide for the privilege and stuck up ones so they can look pretty for a few days. Slow-clap, from me.

Don’t forget sewing supply stores and floral arrangement stores.
