Anyone who thinks they have their own opinion on anything is living in a blue pill delusional wonderland. We are all products of our environment, from peer pressure from friends, family, work mates, mass media, advertising and double speak politicians. And, yes, that includes myself.

The fat issue is a simple case in point. In different cultures and at different times in our own culture, Lucy here would be the very definition of beautiful. In many cultures being fat is equated to being rich, and is therefore desirable. In the early 17 century P.P. Rubens made a living of painting such women, in fact Lucy might have been considered a bit on the thin side. More up to date Marilyn Monroe, Jane Mansfield, Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren were screen goddesses of the 1950s and 60s and they very definitely had plenty to grab hold of.

The move towards finding thin women attractive started in the mid 1960s with homosexual fashion designers making clothes for androgynous models to satisfy their own perverted fantasies concerning dressing up young boys in women’s clothing. It gained traction in the 80s with the idea that thin = fit. So now it is pretty much ingrained that thin is attractive and fat, even mildly overweight is unattractive to the point of being nauseating. All very blue pill, all very sad.
