Inspired by Jan’s post on knife shape, I thought I would start an everyday carry (EDC) post.

I find it amusing how deeply some people geek out on EDC. For me, the chief virtues of EDC are practicality–which means traveling lightly–and preparedness. My ideal EDC is therefore just my keys and wallet, and maybe a pen. I could also see carrying a Leatherman multi-tool as the holy grail of EDC.

Having said that, here is a tour of my EDC knives. I only carry one at a time, if at all.

Kershaw 1615, with mother of pearl inlay

    Gerber Paraframe 1

    Ganzo firebird f753

    Cub Scouts pocket knife

Thunder bolt throwing knife: I ground a cutting edge and added a paracord handle to turn it into a tiny little functional fixed blade. The cutting edge goes right up to my fingers. Slightly less functional than the others, but a worthwhile experiment that looks cool.

Buck 425 mini. Super reliable, tiny ass little knife. I’ve used it for decades. If I were to choose a knife this size today I would choose a mini Gerber Paraframe.

Ka-Bar Administrator. I don’t often carry a kneck knife, however.

I totally see your point. That’s something to geek out for sure. The Leatherman is fine for EDC, but I think the Victorinox is better. Much smoother handling and higher quality. It’s a little like AR15 vs. AK. Both are fine weapons but either side defends their choice till their death.

    My EDC:

    Victorinox Multitool

I am using a different holster with a magnetic button. And of course I have a Maglite Mini LED:

In my wallet I have a credit card sized magnifying glass for when I forget my reading glass.

I thought we would be talking about guns, but knives are a necessity as well. Here’s mine.

IMO a knife is a more important EDC item than a firearm. After wallet and keys it might be the most important.

That is why I usually have 3 on me, right pocket, left pocket and the multi-tool has a blades.

    Beautiful, Hermit.
Sure, let’s talk guns. My pistol carry of choice is a Bersa Thunder 380. Holds 7+1. The .380 ammo is the same diameter as 9mm but shorter in length.

It is very compact–and they even make a more compact version called the Thunder CC (Concealed Carry):

Springfield Armory, .45 ACP 1911. Big and heavy, but I love this pistol. It’s the most accurate handgun I’ve ever fired. Feels good in the hand. Every time I leave the house, this comes with me.

Do you really need that many rounds? This is why the left wingers hate people who carry dangerous weapons such as yours. You’re givin’ the rest of us a bad name buddy.

California may be getting ready to ban those. They promote toxic masculinity in young boys.

    Nice weapon, battle tested.
I have a grown-up 1911 (S&W) but for EDC I like the smaller ultra carry.

I agree it isn’t ideal for EDC, but I haven’t found a compact that I like yet. I do have a little .38 Special, but I just don’t trust it for stopping power like I do my .45.

A hand-loaded .38 spc. round can be formidable indeed! But I like my .45 long Colt.

I have swapped out with the full size S&W .45 a few times other than a little heavier I didn’t notice much difference. Haven’t tried it on the bike yet.

Got both loaded with 230 GR. JHP PPRs.

I hope I never find out how much stopping power it has up close and personal.
