Anonymous1Local radio and TV stations around my area always scream “you will surely die from this cataclysmic storm if you don’t stay tuned to this station.” It could be a little snow, a little wind, a little rain, but the stations will pump it up. I assume this is all for clicks on the website to “check back often” or to stay tuned to that station.
Weatherchannel has been caught “playing it up” just a tad.
Here’s 1:12 of weatherchannel hype.A cheesy one liner, Weatherman is a Whetherman.

The forget to realize that it might, or it might not. That is the whole story.

The reporter in the video seemed to be struggling to stand still in that ‘fierce’ wind yet those people behind him didn’t seem to have any problem at all calmly walking around. What’s up with that???

Hahaha! Good catch. Maybe it’s a new dance move?
The storm did cause significant damage and some death in the worst-hit areas, but the weather guessers were claiming I’d get anywhere between 4 and 20 inches of rain and 35+ MPH squalls, flooding, and landslides. What I actually had was light drizzle, very slight winds, and humid weather. So, while my thoughts are with those who got hit badly, I’m also pretty disgusted with the way the press played this one up.

The storm did cause significant damage and some death in the worst-hit areas…
I’d love to see statistics on the average number of deaths due to accidents, murders, etc for a weekend in the effected area. It would not at all be surprised if it’s actually higher than the deaths caused by storm, since people are going to be too busy avoiding the storm to murder each other and do stupid things. If so, that would mean the storm actually saved lives.
What would happen if a significant storm hit Chicago?
Ok. Then do it.
