Anonymous1Got up early to ride my Royal Enfield 500 Classic to Hunstanton (UK) to the Military show. Time to test my new short bottle silencer which is a deep and mellow thump.
The sun was shining, the ride was great, the show very good and to top it off a low flying Spitfire doing passes and victory rolls.
A ride back through rural fenland stopping at a nice country pub for evening dinner. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Sounds incredible! I didn’t know there were any functioning Spitefires left! (I thought we Germans shot them all down! HA HA) Just kidding!

Anonymous1There are three in the uK that I know of plus a few Hurricanes which is a wooden plane same merlin engine.
I do feel sorry for German men with Frau Merkel in charge. We occasionally see vintage plans in the states flown by the Commemorative Air Force, formerly the ConferderatevAir Force.
The great appeal is the opportunity to walk through a bomber, and for a price fly a lap around the airport in one. Expensive but well worth the effort as the money helps with restoration expenses.
Sounds like you had a great time. B

Thanks man but Germany is finished–and France/Britain aren’t far behind. Well we had a good run but its over.

Anonymous1Can’t wait they are having the b-17 come to an airport nearby. To fly in it is insanely priced but you can go inside for like $20. Ow if they would let me climb into the ball and do some target practice that would be worth it
A motorcycle ride in the farm country that includes vintage war planes, and dinner at a little pub. That does sound like the perfect day! It’s wonderful how good that freedom feels and how that feeling lasts for few days afterwards. Hopefully, long enough to get you through another work week to the following weekend.
Back in April I looked into shipping my 2006 Harley Road King over to Italy so that I could ride all over Europe for a full summer. It wasn’t that unreasonable $1,500 one way. I would just sell the bike and leave it there, as I’m ready for a new set of wheels. I’ve decided to wait until I retire to make that trip, but it is definitely on my bucket list.
Glad you had a good ride Mr. Engineer. If you ever get here to the East Coast here in the United States let me know and I’ll fix you up with a motorcycle and we can go ride for a few days.
Cheers!
Anonymous1Well thank you very much. You Sir are a gentleman. If I ever get over there I’ll take you up on that.
One of my friends from Melbourne comes up once a year and the motorcycle club fix him up with a ride for three weeks.
There is something primeval about the roar of a Merlin engine. I seen a few displays featuring Spitfires.
Being under low pass by a Lancaster, and on another occasion, a Vulcan, was similarly amazing.

Anonymous1back when men were real men, not mostly the simps they have become today.
