They don’t mention a salary range in the job advertisement but ask yo to sate your current salary and salary expectations.

I have even seen job ads for sales people (at all levels) where they don’t advertise the OTE (on target earnings).

This morning I have sent three emails out replying to companies stating my salary expectations are in alignment with the market rate and my existing salary remains confidential at this stage.

I emailed one who were offering me an interview asking for a breakdown of the comms structure -didn’t want to say before the interview-why the fcuk not so withdrew my application.

Jesus christ do tehy not realise sales people negotiate everyday…

    NAh that’s not it

You don’t call it price you call it investment.

    It’s not a contract it’s an agreement.

Putting money aside for a moment what do you like best about the product/service?

Price is rarely the real issue if they like what you offer.

If it does come down to a price negotiation

you say .. Mr customer everything seems to be to cost too much today doesn’t it can you tell me about how much too much you think it is.

Get them to sya a numebr first tahts what the employer is doing tehyw ant to get an employee for as little as possible

state your current salary and salary expectations.

    “Salary is negotiable”
That’s what I always told them. Never been in sales though!

my salary expectations are in alignment with the market rate and my existing salary remains confidential at this stage.

    Sounds reasonable to me!
There are some real tools out there. They’re probably seeking a tool or toolbag.

I bet £1million that they now just reject my application automatically because I am now a trouble maker because they see I won’t be pushed around and swallow all their bulls~~~.

Happens all the tim, they say competitive salary on the ad a lot in the UK which translates as as low as they can get away with because the other idiots applying fall for it.

Christ I’m sick of this s~~~, I’m only 41 and I would retire tomorrow if I could.

When potential employers have asked my current salary or my salary expectations, I’ve told them that both are within the range of the average for someone with my background. That usually works, at least in initial interviews. (I also tell them that me providing my Social Security Number is contingent on them making a written offer).

What gets me is when companies advertise a salary nearly twice as high as what they’re actually willing to pay, to draw more candidates — and then they make you an absurd lowball offer.

Another “pet peeve” of mine is when employers expect the employee to provide his own tools. Nope: if you want to hire me as a contractor, at 2x advertised salary, I’ll provide my own tools. Otherwise, you’re my employer — you buy the tools I’ll need.

My line when asked what my salary needs or expectations are, is that I am sure they pay appropriately for the position they have posted, and then later when pressed I usually say that “until we are at the offer stage, there is no point in negotiating salary at this time, as I am sure you’ll make an appropriate offer”

A lot of places won’t even consider you if they don’t know what you are earning now… and they get what they pay for.

No longer can we walk away, we must run. Remove the motive power.

In England we have a saying, “Pay peanuts get a monkey”.

I said that to a cnt employer once.

In the UK, government funded doctors are also trained ‘manage customer expectations’.

They ask you what you want them to do about your problem. In effect, they get you to set your own price.

If you say ‘whatever you can do’, you’re f~~~ed.
