In this ongoing, epic power struggle involving the female leader of a gelada baboon harem initiating an inevitable replacement of their alpha male baboon.

His name is Braveheart. He has spent the last few years banging all of the females, protecting them and the offspring as well as defending their territory.

But he is growing weary and tired. Threats loom from outside and within.

You can almost see in the look on his face that he senses his time at the top of the sexual hierarchy is running out. And maybe on some level, despite being a primate he realizes that he is in fact replaceable.

His most powerful enemy has now become the female leader of his harem.

For once she decides that Braveheart is no longer worthy of hole access to her and the harem, she will begin threatening his position. And openly mating with lower tier males to influence her own harem into following her behavior.

It is Briffault’s Law in action.
