I can highly recommend the new Doom game. First game I’ve actually been replaying levels to find all the secrets in I don’t know how long. Gotta love the Doom marine – this fella is definitely going his own way. In usual video game fashion the character directing you tells you to carefully dismantle something – nope, smashy smashy. Good graphics and old fashioned 90’s shooter gameplay.

I played those original Dooms some 20+ years ago. Even played them in Deathmatch mode on a LAN.

That’s the style of shooter I’ve always loved, extremely fast paced, hectic, loads of fun. I hated the modern shooters that are so slow and involve hiding behind cover mostly and slowly moving along.

If Doom 2016 spawned more shooters in the same vein, I might even start playing shooters.

For sure. Good times with Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Nitemare 3D and all the other knock offs of Kens Labyrinth like Scared.

But Duke Nukem 3D is my favorite. Good times sitting on my couch after summer school, when I was 15 and playing it on my N64.

Some other good 90’s style shooters that are pure fun: Hard Reset, Shadow Warrior (2013), Serious Sam HD, Serious Sam 3. I’m just so bored of these modern call of duty type shooters. They’re always so slow and there are a bunch of useless NPC’s that you have to follow or guard or try to shoot around their fat heads. And these modern games always have multiple people in your head, via cellphones or radios or something, and they never frickin shut up. If you don’t immediately obey their commands they reprimand you. It’s like having a nagging wife inside your brain. Fun. I’d much rather play an old shooter like Turok where there is just you and these huge environments full of enemies, with no real dialogue. And Dakta Manki, what do you mean I’ll be playing it for real? Do you mean VR games, or is the zombie apocalypse upon us for real?

    Glad someone mentioned it.

It’s awesome, and for the younger crowd, a different approach. A 19 year old Gamestop employee commented on how much he enjoyed the fast paced system because it felt new. Another one who couldn’t be older than 20 was a bit contrary and stated how he thought it was lame that there was no reload, looking down scopes, or cutscenes.

Honestly, I’ve found that some game developers keep trying too hard to achieve realism as if it’s supposed to be more fun. Maybe if you’re a masochist.

Oh man I remember Duke Nukem. The first 2 games were side scrolling action games, and then the 3rd one was an FPS. He had so much character and that game was a heck of a lot of fun.

They made a newer one but I didn’t enjoy it as much. It lost the charm of the older games and was more in the vein of a modern shooter I guess, plus a lot of the jokes and stuff were toned down because the only PC for Duke is what you’re playing on.

    http://www.roadtovr.com/fallout-4-and-doom-vr-versions-coming-from-bethesda/

Bethesda Softworks today announced during their E3 2016 press conference that VR versions of both Fallout 4 and Doom will be coming to VR headsets.

If this is going through, they’ll blow every other FPS-game out of the water!

And to think you can create your own arenas and share online with anyone…. I’m on the other game though (hint: Fallout 4).

DOOM has a theme song just found out. The lead guitarist of Nazareth Manny Charlton apparently liked Doom and wrote/recorded a song about it. He then sent a tape to ID software with a note that said kick some demon butt to this.
The song is not too bad at all. If you are a Nazareth fan from back in the day you owe yourself a listen.

The lyrics of the song are somewhat MGTOW’esq

Do you know where you are, didn’t anyone tell
You’re a man on a mission, you’re on the shores of hell
What you gonna do, where you gonna go
Cause no one’s got the street plan
That’s all you need to know

You can run but you, sure can’t hide
Oh no it’s always round the bend
You’re in the house of pain
Better find all you think you need
    Will this nightmare never end

Better find the exit, better find the door
You won’t get no mercy, down on the killin’ floor
There’s a spider on the bridge, there’s a demon on the ledge
Better get your chain gun and fill it full of lead

You can run but you, sure can’t hide
Oh no it’s always round the bend
You’re in the house of pain
Better find all you think you need
    Will this nightmare never end

Blood on the walls, blood in your eyes
Blood on your face, blood on your hands
    You’re gonna lose your soul

    Solo

You can run but you, sure can’t hide
Oh no it’s always round the bend
You’re in the house of pain
Better find all you think you’ll need
    Will this nightmare never end

Blood on the walls, blood in your eyes
Blood on your face, blood on your hands
    You’re gonna lose your soul
    You’re gonna lose your soul
