I talked to a Navy recruiter a few months ago(he also called me today). When we talked a few months ago I told him that I want to join the military and that I would be very interested in doing Special Operations. He then asked me why I want to join the military and I told him that I want to fight ISIS. He then talked about all the benefits of joining the U.S Navy such as free healthcare, lodging, food, and ways that I can get the Navy to pay for my college. I asked him if there are any other ground units and Special Forces Teams in the Navy other than the Seals. He said that they have Divers,EOD(the Navy’s bomb squad),and the Seals. The recruiter actually offered to put me in the Naval Special Warfare program if I join the Navy ,retake the ASVAB, and get a better score. My current ASVAB score is a 46. He said he would list me down to be a Diver and then I said no I’d much rather be an EOD guy. I then asked him if I could go to Sniper School in the U.S Navy. He then told me that only Navy Seals were allowed to go to Sniper School. We talked some more about why Im not planning on joining the Navy for at least a year. I told him that I plan to go to college(paid for by my parents) and become an officer. He then told me that I should get the Navy to pay for college. I then told him that I dont know what the Navy’s requirements were for them to pay for me to go to college. He told me that there are no requirements and me being the son of a former member of U.S Army Recruiting Command was very sceptical. Then when he called me on the phone today he asked me how I was doing and If I wanted to talk about the U.S Navy. I then told him that I wont be able to join the Navy for a year at least and then he asked me why a year. I then told him that I plan to go to college for a year. He then asked me if I plan to work through college and I said yes I do. Anyways I’ve seen many documentaries and youtube videos about Navy Seal Training, but I dont know much about Navy EOD Training. What I want to know is whether or not EOD Training requires the same amount of sleep deprivation, constant PT, and a hell week. I also want to know if there is any chance that I will be selected to try out for Devgru(aka Seal Team Six) if I join the Navy and become an EOD guy. I also want to know if there is any way that I can certifiably be trained as a sniper outside the United States Military. I heard that Blackwater trains civilians in land combat training for a certain price. Can one of you check and see if they also offer sniper training. Any information or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm married to the game, but she broke her vows.

Don’t ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,…………EVER trust what a recruiter promises regardless of branch of service.  They lie more than a used car salesman.

They probably need to. Considering what they expect, the deal is extremely lopsided considering what you’re offered.

They’ll say anything so you’ll marry them 😆

We all know how that works out.

Go do your own research. There are loads of forums you can get REAL help and advice from.

Amen, bro! He has a quota to fill, just like a small town speed trap.

There is a young man in my life who is planning to join up, so I have an interest in this topic.

First: Your plan to join as an officer is a good one. Stick to it! Um, pick a major that the military will actually want. Hint: Anything with ‘studies’ in the title ain’t it; something like engineering probably is. Consult local listings. Mileage may vary.

Next: Follow ILiveAgain’s advice and do lots and lots of research. The Navy (assuming it’s the USN) has copious websites, and there are sites by veterans of all branches. Some of the latter are true eye openers. Here is my favorite, because it pushes the truth thinly disguised as humor http://www.duffelblog.com/

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

First of all listen to soldier-medic.  Never ever ever trust a recruiter and do your own research.

Second if you really want to go in as an officer you will need a bachelors degree and not just one year of college.  Preferably something engineering related.  Also, officers don’t defuse bombs.  They tell other people to do it.  The Navy is very engineering oriented.  Ship systems are complicated and in many cases contain the most advanced engineering in the world (nuclear power, advanced radar, ECM, ECCM, encryption, laser, rail guns).

So first decide if you really want to be an officer.  If so then you need a full bachelors degree.  Or you can go in as enlisted and try and work towards that from the inside (extremely difficult but possible).  There is also a ton of prejudice against Mustangs (enlisted who became officers in the Navy) when it comes to promotions, so be aware of this.  The “ringknockers” (officers who came from the Naval Academy) have something of a certain view towards non academy grads also, so this is something good to be aware of.
