Anonymous43used to play sim city, got bored with it and technology moved on.
age of kings? at least you could build and shoot stuff. and that got boring
on to world of tanks, just blow s~~~ up
My students keep trying to get me to play them. They don’t quite look like my forte, however. I definitely prefer RTS.
Women are better at multitasking? Fucking up several things at once is not multitasking.
Civ is indeed absolutely awesome. I recommend it highly. Civ I and Civ II are the best – the rest become an overcomplicated mess just to sell videogames.
Freeciv (which is shareware online) isn’t bad either, although it’s less world-take-over-y than Civ is. I prefer Civ because I prefer a game that’s actually winnable, even at the harder levels. Freeciv at max size and difficulty is almost unplayable without taking notes and treating it almost like a business or writing software. Some people might find that fun . . . me, not so much.
If you like Civ, you might also enjoy Europa Universalis I (and maybe II). Again, all the later versions largely seem to exist to simply make money off the brand, and to me are overly complicated for no reason. I still occasionally play EUII (I last played it last week). The games take myriad hours to play; each successive version of EUII punishes taking over the world more and more.
There are wikias online I think for both games; definitely is one for EU.
Enjoy!

Civilzation 2 is the best, now I play civilzation 3.

Civ 2 is awesome. I have played 2, 3, 4 and now 5. I am waiting for the price to come down on 6. Amazing series and lot of fun.

Civ 3 is my favorite, when I have no plans, I fire it up and get lost in discovery, which is my favorite part.
No longer can we walk away, we must run. Remove the motive power.
I play (from time to time) a Sid Meier game called “Alpha Centauri” As best as I can guess, it is the pilot software game for Civilization. Good game, turn based, hard to beat!
Marry again, Hell NO ! ( Even JESUS was hung on a cross just once)
I lost months – possibly years – of my life to Civ 1, still play it occasionally on an old box I keep around. Loved Civ 2 as well and finally had to uninstall it as it was dominating my life.
Couldn’t get into Civ 3 – the lack of Zone of Control, seeing screenshots of other people’s games where they have a long line of units on their border to physically prevent invasion, didn’t like that. Civ 2 kept all the good elements and improved many, whereas Civ 3 made changes I didn’t like (and improvements I DID like, I hurry to add). But it also didn’t fix the AI which still relied on cheating (using the computer’s knowledge off your positions etc) which meant it was still beatable through exploiting that.
Alpha Centauri was fun. The bombardment ability was brutal but historically accurate – gunboat diplomacy.

Anonymous25yeah, I’ve played the latest one. It’s very good. Just one more turn…
I played 4 for a while, i enjoy the thinking / strategy of it but the games tend out outlast my attention span LoL. Haven’t tried 5 yet, waiting for a good steam sale, maybe i’ll pick it up during summer sale or something if i’m not playing something else.
I only own civ 5, but I have owned and played 3 and 2. Perhaps its because I was too young to play well when I owned them but I prefer civ 5.
I also have a lot of thematic mods for civ 5 that make the whole game be set in a certain fantasy world, a bunch of civs, a mod that changes the unit models, even a mod to change all the unit portraits, names, and social policies.
