Cryptojacking is a problem, but a sign of a weird world we are in. You have black hat hackers doing illegal activity that consists of using extra computer resources people aren’t using, without their knowledge, in order to validate transactions people did with a cryptocurrency, before it gets stored in an online distributed ledger.

Anyone here every thought cybercriminals would end up doing unauthorized caretaking of financial records? One would think the only criminals that did such were bankers. Anyhow, I digress 😛

I remember a decade and a half ago when SETI (Search for extraterrestrial intelligence) was doing something similar with people voluntarily allowing SETI to their computers to run parts of SETI programs when those computers were not otherwise being used.

I wonder if these hackers are using a similar framework as the SETI framework did, only with viruses and behind people’s backs by turning their computers into remote bots.

Mining cryptocurrencies isn’t a bad thing, is a way that they can get some profit. Abusing it, is a problem. I prefer to mine than to see any ads. Those ads platforms (adsense for example), track every move, everything, every search that you do online, is tracked, analyzed and used against you. Mine is just consuming processing power and electricity.

Add a miner to MGTOW.com would be a good idea, I will be glad to contribute with my computer to mine to help the community, sometimes you can’t really afford a donation, but you can spare to mine 0.05$. But if you sum it up to members and lurkers, you can have some substantial amount of money to help this excellent website.

The principle is the same, but those bots “gather” in mining pools, where everyone is united to mine, and when a block is mined (the calculation is solved), they are shared among the members of the pool according to their effort.

There is actually a FoldingCoin, where they do calculations for the Folding project, which benefits science, so you get a chance to get compensated for validating a ledger.

This is part of distributed computing. The guys doing Cryptojacking are using some sort of Javascript to do distributed processing to get cryptocurrency for validation.
