I’ve gone to my share of sci-fi cons, but I have never felt like a member of an oppressed minority. Maybe it’s because I didn’t stay for the nighttime events.

I showed up a few times in my full fig Scottish clan gear, kilt and everything. No one looked twice at the grown man in the wool skirt. No one tried to oppress me either.

Yet another example of people who take themselves too seriously and the world not seriously enough. Heck, I’d say most of sociey’s problems stem from exactly that. Clearly, the world needs more Discordians :p

There lies serenity in Chaos. Seek ye the eye of the hurricane.

One must conclude … with your above statement … that by a process of elimination … that it was you RoyDal that was the oppressor.

I’m offended and hurt …. and need an Audi R8 to compensate. Not the v8 though … the R8 v12.

Candyapple red … with black intakes.

    Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells ☺

They need to have separate con’s for these cos-players.  They are not there for the comics or other media, most are there for the attention whoring.   More and more the get in the way of the people there for the comics and other media.  At first it was guys dressing up for fun as their favorite game or comic character.   Now Cos-players take it far too competitively and seriously.  Don’t get me started on the land-whales dressing skimpy.  Looks like a cottage cheese festival.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

I stopped going to conventions of any sort. Women have turned them all into “cosplay events” which are really just excuses for them to dress like whores and get attention.

Say, you ain’t one of them Englishmen are you? My clan elders are still cranky about that whole Bonnie Prince Charlie thing.
Speaking of German royalty (very long story, don’t ask), how come it’s a German car you’re a-wanting? Would a Jaguar, a nice Indian car, do instead?

Hahaha I’m an Irish man …. from the south.

I suppose I could have a Jag but as you say it’s really a TaTa.

The Mini is now BMW and LandRover are no better.

Given my country’s history … a German Audi/VW is appropriate.

Can’t be doing with that American crap either…. Oh … except the Viper ?

Irish, that’s OK then. My favorite version of history has Scotland settled by the Irish. That is the Irish drove the Picts out or subjugated them. Which means every Scot is Irish deep down.

No argument about the Viper. Wouldn’t mind a new model Vette either.

EVERY woman believes that nothing bad should ever happen to them.

Feminism is blaming someone else (a man) when it does.

I don’t go to conventions at all, once all this comic con stuff started I knew the t~~~’s would show up and ruin it, aided and abetted by the white knight and mangina tendencies found in high levels amongst those people. Sure enough they did…just like clockwork.

If you’re going to choose a hobby, choose something that women hate, something that requires dedication and skill. Like building models.

Gotta love the kilt though, it’s a legitimate way to wear a “skirt” and no one can do anything about it. Haha. I also find them to be much more comfortable than pants and you get the free feeling without actually being nekked. Standing outside on a night with a cool breeze is great. Women can keep the pants.

Honestly, I think it depends on the con and what your genre is. I’m an nerd raised by nerds with a nerdy brother who married a convention-runner (they’re gay!) so I’ve been on both sides of the con scene.

    Furry
You’d think cartoon cats and dogs would be a chickfest but it’s the opposite: MEN EVERYWHERE. Chances are if the costume looks like a girl it’s a man in drag. Actual female cosplayers are fairly rare and half of them are playing males. Nobody pays you to cosplay at a furcon and there are no girls. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Just be aware that open gays are also everywhere, though seeing a lion-preacher giving a sermon to the rainbow sparkle brigade was priceless.

    Fantasy
If it says Fantasy as the first genre word, expect costume whores everywhere. Everyone tries too hard in this genre, though it’s not overrun by women (yet) as there are enough interesting male-driven stories to give tons of options for guys to pick from. Women? they get the chainmail bikini. Sadly the new wave with RR Martin and such is changing this.

    Sci-Fi
If it says Sci-fi as the first genre word, what you get will depend on the con size. If there is money involved like the big cons, expect costume whores and a chickfest. If it’s a smaller con, a “relaxicon” or has “horror” anywhere in the poster, you’ll see more guys in costume. My yearly Sci-con, Marscon, is large enough to require a con hotel but small enough to not get paid sponsors and it’s a relaxicon on top of it so you see more storm troopers and browncoats than steampunk tramps. It also helps that the 501st legion and the local Klingon chapter always show up and that we have heavy male bases for Firefly, Warhammer, and Pokemon around here. Yes, pokemon!

    Horror
You’re safe. It’s all icky so it’s pussy repellent for all but the least annoying of females. Be aware that if “fantasy” is anywhere in the brochure you will see a ton of Buffy and Twilight fangirls so be prepared.

    Anime / Comic Books
You. Are. F~~~ED. Most the cosplayers are chicks, even if the character is male. I blame Japan where this is considered “normal”. Damnit, Japan, why do you have to be such a mixed blessing? It also doesn’t help that many anime cons are sponsored, which means the money attracts extra female cosplayers.Lumping these together as Anime/Manga and Comics/Superhero films are pretty similar when you think about it.

    Beauty fades, dumb is forever.
