    I personally believe in some tenants of Liberalism but I temper it with 3 documents.
    Declaration of Independence
    The Constitution
    The Bill of Rights

    Suppose I could be a Conservative – Constitutional – Liberal….

    This post just reminded me of a bad memory. I used to know a group of tradcons in their late 30’s – early 40 who thought they were so damn hip. They were talking about how “alternative” they were because they watched the Hunger Games movie and Fox news. These “don’t tread on me” people also complained about the History channel’s Bible series because it wasn’t perfectly representing the bible.

    These idiots aren’t counter culture. I don’t care if your mini-van has the “don’t tread on me” bumper sticker. You want do anything if someone treads on you. I view votes and activism as largely meaningless. Live an alternative lifestyle instead of only sitting there and whining that the world should adopt the alternative values you hold. Thats one of my reasons for going my own way. I don’t want to be on the plantation, so I don’t. No whining needed.

    Stealth;

    FEMSTAPO (derived from GESTAPO), not the secret state police, but the feminist state police.

    (In German that would be Feministen Staatspolizei, I think)

    While I completely understand your stance, in my case, the lifestyle I would live would consist of many actions which are illegal. I value my freedom and so the only options at my disposal are activism and voting. That’s why I can’t dismiss these venues even if they may seem not to be very effective. Remember, the “activism” shown in the media is almost always just for show or put in a negative light. I’m talking about real word of mouth, long conversation, dinner-table, beer-in-pub activism.
    The founding fathers were activists for many years trying to convince the people of the colonies/states, first to fight the war, then to form the confederation, then to form the federal government and so on. Almost all the political history of the USA and other western countries consists of activists pushing ideas and then having people or representatives of the people voting on said ideas.
    It is true though, that right now, at the higher levels of government at least the vote is almost useless. But there are still local issues that can be influenced with votes.

    The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!

    You bring up some good points, but I still think my stance is partially applicable to such a situation. You may not be able to directly practice what you believe because jail sucks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t practice it indirectly. Let’s say we have an anarchist. Overthrowing the state is illegal, but he could lessen the state’s influence on his own life. He can refuse to marry due to it being a contract with the state, he could live off the grid, and/or he could take a job with less income so he doesn’t pay as much taxes to the state.

    When I said activism, I was thinking of it as the media portrays it (thanks for pointing that out). I share beliefs when I can without being obnoxious. For me, strength training is something I really enjoy, but the way I do it is not accepted by most people. Rather than complaining or screaming at them, I just bring it up in a conversation if it is relevant or I live in a way that brings honor to it. Yesterday, I was with a couple of other students who were having trouble carrying something heavy, so once they set it down, I picked up by myself in carried it for them. When they asked what I did to be so strong, I credited strength training and said I really enjoy it. I guess in that sense I’m an activist, but you sure what find me holding up a sign in the streets screaming at people.
