Guys, could you please advise on a compact and candid voice recorder with good audio.
    Something like a pen or I don’t know…
One hour of storage is probably enough
Or maybe there is a phone app that records everything in the background, but I’m not sure if the phone mike is sensitive enough.
    Thanks

    Most smart phones have this.
I tap a button and it records very well.
For a pen like device I would recommend amazon. .where I live there is a store called the spy shop..

I downloaded the smart voice recorder ob my smart phone. It’s available in the play store. Just go to play store then go in the search box and type smart voice recorder. It actually records really well picks up the littest voices. It really surprised me as to how well it works

will it pick up conversations while your phone is in your pants pocket though?
Also, I want it to be hands-off as possible – no pressing buttons to start recording or anything like that. I just want it to have say – the last hour of everything that went around available for download if/when I need it

Hmm, no pressing buttons, well even in this day and age that is probably quite a tough one to come by, but the Zoom H4 by Edirol/Roland is quite a neat little thing to have. It records audio onto your ordinary SD-cards (like the ones you use in a digital consumer photo camera) in excellent quality and is equipped with an on board stereo mic pair.

    This is the device:

Due to its arrangement of both the mics it is sometimes also ironically referred to as the “electric shocker”.

So if anybody might ask you what you’re carrying around in your pocket, you may easily say it’s just for self defense (an electric shocker) and you wouldn’t even lie in a double sense … … although at this stage it might still be a bit too bulky for your requirements, Russky.

Then again, give it another one or two years and such or similar devices are gonna shrink yet further in size…

… or: if you are willing to spend quite a bit of money and go full espionage like equipment, I heard that some of the latest Zaxcom radio tiny tram mic sets are developing a built-in chip into the receiver that can also record audio onto itself whilst you can hide the tiny mic that comes with it virtually anywhere within the garment you’re wearing. Mind you, such a device is very expensive in purchase (as in a dozen hundreds of $$ or even one or two k $$).

I'd rather die a natual death with a clear MGTOW conscience somewhere off the grid than one within "modern" civilisation with a big stress mark on my forehead and a couple of dozen tubes plugged into my body. They make spy pens and usb dongles with that capability. Your phone can also serve that function. Of cpurse any device will need you to hit the record button…. unless it’s a cctv system on automatic loop.

Automatic loop! That’s it. That’s exactly what I was talking about.
Thanks for all the responses, I’ll research those links, especially apps and those spy pens and flash drives – see if they offer autoloop – I really want to record everything that goes around me all the time in case I need to go back to something

I don’t think rolling recording is necessary for audio recording thanks to audio compression and cheap storage. You can easily fit over 10 hours of mp3 audio into a single gigabyte data card. A 32GB card can store almost 20 straight days of audio. Your limiting factor will be battery life, not data storage.

With that in mind, why settle for just audio when there are motion activated spy pens that can record 1080p60 video?

The Zoom H4 is complete overkill for his purposes.

The voice recording on smartphones is garbage.

    I’d recommend the Zoom H1.
It has an excellent built mic, but also functions as an external recorder for lavmics.
