I’m not really much of a gamer anymore, and certainly haven’t kept up on the scene. The most modern thing I’ve played is Fallout 3, from a few years back.
I like(d) PC platform games the best, and tend to have some “Comfort Food” games that I return to every now and then.
Something about the familiarity of them and such that I like, not to mention some simplicity, which tends to get lost in a lot of modern programming. Kind of like “can play with my eyes closed” type of thing, but still do anyway.
Anyone else have old games they return to out of a sense of nostalgia, etc?
A couple of go-to’s of mine are (In PC platform)
Battlefield 1942
Medieval Total WarYou guys have similar stuff?
I think to me it would be the Metal Gear Solid and Halo series.

Forgot all about Metal Gear Solid. Wish I still had the CD for that.
That asws a great game!!
Chess has stood the test of time with me. I’ve burned out on all the other games.

I like playing World of Tanks.
Downloadable from the internet.

Deserves it’s own class, apart from games for sure.
Excellent.

Hey cool! I’ve seen that advertised often, but have yet to try it out. As far as military games go, I’ve always enjoyed an armor element, whether it’s realistic or not.
One of my favourite parts of Battlefield 1942 was the ability to hop into any tank, and wreak havoc, particularly the Tiger, when playing on the Axis side. Some of the mods for BF 1942 made it even cooler.
Love trucking around in an old Churchill, the behemoth that it is, with the 75mm roaring away. Sort of a cross between a WWI concept tank and a WW2 Heavy Tank. Slow as hell, but a tough nut to crack.

One can play it with a computer, or on a computer with another human.; so I thought it was kind of on topic. BTW, I can’t beat a computer unless I deliberately cripple it. Frankly, there are a lot of school kids who can beat me.

Yes, I meant it as a compliment, and as testament to it’s ancient beginnings. Such an elegant game.
One which I am highly proficient at…………losing. 😀
@EMP, hey man

“I’m your huckleberry on this, that is just my game” (Doc Holiday from Tombstone)

All things being equal, we may be about the same skill level…perhaps we could get a game going sometime?World of Warcraft
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (The greatest game you’ve never played).
Crusader Kings 2 (or Rome: Total War)
Battlefield: Vietnam
Final Fantasy: Tactics3. Civilization series (And CIV 5 & CIV BE)
Awesome.
8. Axis & Allies board game
Purely Awesome. I’ve always felt they could do a really good reimagining of this digitally, with more interactive play and such. Such a classic game, that one.

This is where you will find me: http://www.chess.com/play/

THIS was a gooder, although I was really disappointed with the firepower of the tanks. It was great before the first Version update as well. As “anti-tank”, you were a dude with not only an M-72 LAW, but a frigging M-60! Then they changed it to the M-14 with the Version update.
Badass game, and lots of fun with the Hueys, and Hinds.
When I’m in the mood to shoot s~~~, I fire up planetside 2. Nothing like shooting other players or owning a teenager with a shotgun to the skull.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Anonymous1For me it’s Gears of War…
M.U.L.E. from Electronic Arts, circa 1982, by Dan Bunten/Ozark Softscape. It was a fantastic 4-player experience on an Atari 800, long before multiplayer games took off with the internet.
I’m really showing my age here. I was only 12 when it came out though. I kept playing games ’till Playstation I.
I loved Final Fantasy VII. I occasionally go to a local arcade to play the coin-op games of my youth without an emulator: Galaga, Centipede, Ms. Pacman, and Dig Dug. I really don’t play modern games but may take it up again someday.
Roydal: I like the chess link and will give that a try. I used to play as a kid but was never great.
I play warthunder and team fortress 2. I prefer war thunder to world of tanks, the simulator battles are really fun. The armor mechanic really sets the game apart.
Dungeon Keeper, the original one from the 90’s. I’ve sunk so many hours into this game over the years it’s scary.
