This is an interesting editorial which was syndicated in papers throughout the US recently.

I find it amusing in that it focuses upon ‘our’ entitlements, instead of how the INDIVIDUAL should be responsible for their own welfare. Then it goes on to propose remedying the ‘problem’ that the State has created with, you guessed it, MORE intervention by the State. i.e. it does not discuss creating a level playing field for child custody and divorce. It does not discuss how oversized government consumes so much of our GDP that individuals have less disposable income. It does not discuss narcissism or social media, or the poor education system.

Instead, every problem must fit the cookie cutter and be resolved by more Government interventions.

You could learn more just by ASKING a few dozen friends/colleagues in their 20’s why they are having fewer kids, than speculating. Then, it notes women are having ‘fewer children than they want to’. What about how many children MEN want to have?

COLUMN: Historically low birth rate threatens future of entitlements

    By Cynthia M. Allen Jan 26, 2018 (…)

IN P.D. James’ dystopian novel “The Children of Men,” the unthinkable has happened—people have stopped having children.

Scientists cannot pinpoint the reason why human reproduction is no longer possible, and it’s at a loss how to fix it. Without hope for the future, society descends into moral darkness.

The elderly, now a burden, are involuntarily euthanized. “Criminals” are exported to an island prison from which none return. Roving bands of hedonic young men terrorize and murder people.

Government, seeking to retain some control, promotes pleasure-seeking activities among the populace—everything from golf courses to pornography shops.

That hopelessness came to mind as I read a devastating piece in the New York Times in November about the lonely deaths of Japan’s rapidly aging population.

Japan’s death rate has surpassed its birth rate. In 2016, the number of births dropped below one million—a disheartening milestone for a nation that is expected to lose a third of its population by 2060.

“The extreme isolation of elderly Japanese is so common that an entire industry has emerged around it, specializing in cleaning out apartments where decomposing remains are found,” wrote Norimitsu Onishi of a forgotten generation.

The village of Nagaro, once home to 300, has fewer than 30 people. One resident even made dolls to remind her of the people—and the children—who are no longer there.

These stories are about Japan, but they provide a sobering look at the future of the developed world if it continues on its current demographic trajectory.

That’s because Japan is far from the only nation experiencing a baby bust. Birth rates across the European Union are below the replacement rate. Things are equally grim in the U.S.

Last year, the U.S. birth rate, already declining for years, hit a historic low—about 1.77 per woman of child-bearing age—largely driven by a collapse in childbearing by people of the millennial generation.

The decline has been rapid. Only a decade ago it was 2.1, the rate necessary to keep a population stable.

And while some progressive thinkers (like those who believe large families are unethical or that slowing population growth means greater sustainability) welcome this news, most observers understand the profound policy consequences of a nation with fewer and fewer babies.

Economist and migration blogger Lyman Stone described a few of them in a recent column, including major slumps in economic growth and economic dynamism.

Then there’s the looming collapse of our already faltering entitlements state. If Social Security survives the Baby Boomers, how much longer can it be sustained by an ever-shrinking working population?

Demographers and social scientists have plenty of theories as to what is causing this loss of “will to breed”—delayed marriage, increased use of contraception, failure to launch, the extreme cost of higher education, public policies that are unfriendly to families and the increased secularization of society.

And few people can agree on public policy solutions that might incentivize fertility.

Some argue that tax cuts and other financial incentives will spur the birth rate. Others think limits on contraception will have the same effect. Stone says any impact they create would be nominal.

The notion that generous family leave policies and universal health care are the solution also falls mostly flat.

And arguments that increased immigration will solve the problem are short-sighted, seeing as the immigrant birth rate is also declining, especially for non-native born millennials.

What’s most disturbing about this trend is that, despite calls for increased contraception and female empowerment, women in the U.S. and Europe are having fewer children than they want to.

That alone should tell us that the causes run deep and something dramatic needs to happen if we want to reverse course. Policy changes are well and good, but we need wholesale cultural change.

Having children, says Emmanuel Gobry, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, is “a signal that people are willing to commit to the most enduring responsibility on Earth, which is raising a child.”

To have hope in our future, we must have more children.

We don’t want life to imitate art.

The very concept of government entitlements outside of a few contexts. Are the end product of an economic double, advocated by individuals who don’t pay taxes(mostly white women)

A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!

Since this is a woman’s problem now, I don’t give one s~~~. Plenty of jobs for the men that want them. Plenty of pussy for men that want that headache, and more then enough women to fill the jobs that men don’t want.

    What’s the problem? I don’t see any.

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

Problem with that is that both the policy and cultural changes that need to happen are not going to be at all to their liking, and even if they were made right now it’s going to be a damned long time before men start trusting again even to the level of basic association.

This is the end result of Socialism. The Social Policies of FDR back in the 1930’s. The “New Deal” is collapsing. No more Social Security.

Look at what happened over the last 100 years, the “Baby Boomers” were kept afloat by borrowing from the future generations. The future generations are now left with more debt than can ever be paid off.

We are the “Baby Busters.” The Welfare State will collapse, Socialism has failed. I anticipate my hourly wages will go up because there will be some serious labor shortages in the future. Not enough young men to keep this economy floating. This is actually a very good thing. 🙂

Why is there no wall and why will there never be a wall?

Because without population growth the Ponzi Schemes of FIAT money and Socialism both collapse.

More to do with dysgenics, but also a touch of truth as higher IQ/More educated people tend to have less kids.

Men have already done enough building and maintaining of societies. We can afford to take a century off and let women take the garbage to the dump.

Margaret Thatcher — ‘The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.’

In this case, the “other people” are future generations. If those “other people” don’t exist, neither does their money.

    LOL.

Stupid socialists. Stupid feminists. They can both rot in Hell.

Back when Republicans/Right-Wing were “The Man”, they were opposed to abortion and birth control, because it would slow population growth down. They talked about limiting immigration but they always gave a wink to the cheap labor that came across the border. In this time period, the Left liked to bitch about Zero Population Growth.

Now that the Left has been co-opted by Globalists and global corporations, you hardly hear any Leftists advocating Zero Population Growth. Globalists are “The Man” now and they want H-1B visas, illegal immigration, outsourcing, the whole enchilada. Cheap-labor express on steroids.

F~~~ them all. I’ll find a French Revolution-style uprising in the Western countries amusing. I’ll get out the popcorn when heads start getting lopped off.

Maybe they can set up guillotines in groups with tracks for the heads to roll down, like a pinewood derby, and people can place bets as to which head will roll to the bottom first.

I like how they try and convince you that entitlements are only in place to take care of the elderly.

I like how they try and convince you that entitlements are only in place to take care of the elderly.

The irony of “entitlements” “taking care of” people is that they make it much more difficult for people to take care of themselves.

Let’s take for example, social security. Between what I paid into it, and what my employer paid into it for their legally obligated match, my labor added 15,772 dollars to the social security program last year. That amount of money invested each year and compounded at 8% if I were allowed to just invest it on my own would leave me with 1.25 million after 25 years. Carry it out even longer and the numbers get even worse…same calc for a 40 year working span would leave you with 4.4 million.

Now let’s take into account that the maximum social security payment for 2017 was $32,244. That 1.25 million figure is essentially equal to 38 years of social security if that 1.25 million yielded 0 return from retirement forward. The 4.4 million figure would be like 136 years of social security payments if it yielded 0 return from retirement forward.

I always just find it ironic when people whine about retirement prospects, then whine about social security. Maybe their retirement prospects would be better had they not spent a life time getting robbed by the government with an “investment” that is guaranteed to have a horrible rate of return.
