China has banned the import of several vital products from North Korea in line with the UN sanctions announced earlier this month.

Importing coal, iron ore, lead concentrates and ore, lead and sea food from North Korea will be banned as of Tuesday, China’s Commerce Ministry said today.

It is hoped that the UN sanctions against trade with North Korea will force the country’s dictator Kim Jong-Un to slow down, if not abandon, his nuclear missile program.

    Big deal?
    Just more political theater?
Bunch of BS, what China says and what they do will not be the same thing?
    Thoughts?

When I look at what is going on, just a big bunch of little boys fighting in the sand pit. Their mental capacity is so low.

A tranquil mind is neither happy nor sad, it is uninfluenced by external conditions.

North Korea exports 90% of all goods to China. Even a small boycott hurts them a lot. This does not mean the dear leader will become somehow cooperative, but at least it limits their financial resources to buy more weapons.

What’s much more concerning: The Ukraine (yes, our new allies against the Russians) is selling rocket motors to North Korea. That’s the background of their new capabilities in long range rockets. Without Kim would continuing shooting blanks for some more years. This truly sucks.

The Chinese want to keep the North as a harmless buffer state, so they do want to see radical change in N.Korea.

Unfortunately, successive US administrations have driven the North down this road, and continue to do so. They made the very stick that they are now being beaten with.

Asians have very long memories – to them, 1950 was only yesterday. What happened to the Vietnamese didn’t pass unnoticed either.

More recently, they have seen what happened to Libya, Syria, and Iraq, and understand (correctly) that they only way that they can continue to survive is to acquire nuclear weapons.

If the US invades (or uses its S.Korean proxies to do so), the Chinese will cross the border, just like they did in 1950. The only difference is that this time, the Chinese have both the capacity and the will to turn the US mainland to ash.

I suspect that the best solution is for the loudmouths to shut up and allow the Chinese to quietly get rid of Kim. I have no doubt whatsoever that Chinese agents are working with people inside the regime to secure this end.

Agreed, it would be the best solution for the US and allies but would it be truly beneficial to China?

The West sees NK and Kim as a rabid madman that is really close to getting his grubby, greasy, little fat finger on the ‘The Button’ and only China can keep this little f~~~er reigned in and muzzled.

OTOH China MUST keep trade going with the West or else it is in deep doo-doo.

I am not sure what the truth is b/c we only know what we are told.
What we are told I’m sure is not the truth or complete truth.

Yes – they would get a harmless buffer state that they control.

True, but if the US were to embargo all trade with China, that would harm the US too, and of the two, I think the US is now the more fragile.

And that’s before the Chinese start calling in the billions that the US owes, and starts dumping US bonds (China is the biggest single holder and creditor).

The Chinese are now in a position to crush the dollar if they choose to do so, not that that is something that they actually want to do at the moment, as doing so would hurt them.

They are also well aware that should the US economy go into a terminal dive, war would become almost inevitable, war being the customary last resort of bankrupt governments.

They don’t want war, and are trying to avoid it. As Asians always do, they are taking the long view. All they have to do is wait.

Given time, the West will simply rot away.

They SHOULD crush the dollar. Then it make the US rethink ditching the banking cartel and the federal reserve and start issuing a currency that our government actually owns.
