These batteries of ICBM’s aren’t a threat to Russia. China isn’t moving against Russia and this move isn’t intended to be seen as a threat.
Those missiles have a 15,000km range. Why would they need to park them near the border? To say ‘Hello, here we are‘?
I think the Russians know their southern neighbor better than the West does.

Perhaps reach over Russia to tap the US on the shoulder? The U.S. early warning missile detection installation on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands looks straight up China’s dress. China’s Northern missile sites may be out of it’s range, and make it appear as if Russia did the launch. Three birds with only one stone! Sounds like some Chinese philosophy to me!

It does sound like it to me as well, if they don’t have something even more improbable in mind. I don’t limit the possibilities with the Chinese. Their civilisation was already flourishing when most others were still fighting with Flintstones.

So it’s easier to explain that these batteries of ICBM’s aren’t a threat to Russia. That’s exactly an official Kremlin’s statement. But just for a second, there is a sharp detail. China keeps silence. They explain nothing. I take it as a voiceless and eloquent message to Putin who hopes for refresh with the USA. Putin gave up many to China and been a very submissive for the last years. But now he saw a partner in Trump and China doesn’t like it. As it’s said: “Speak softly and carry a big stick” (Theodore Roosvelt).

Russia was attacked by both China and USA in the past. In 1950 the US Air Force conducted an air strike on a small Soviet air base Sukhaya Rechka in the Far East. In 1969 Chinese Army attacked Soviet border guards what led to the battle for Damansky Island. But there is a huge difference. USSR didn’t see USA as a friend as did it to the China. So China may betray with no hesitation.

I believe this is a carefully tailored response to Putin’s constant love-letters to the EU and the USA that he wants to be ‘friends’.

China is reminding Russia that any flip flops in strategic alliances will not be taken lightly. With the US pivoting to Asia the last thing China needs is a Russia that may work with NATO to completely surround its borders.

The Soviet Union was lending assistance to China in the Korean War, those were Kolesnikov model 1947 killing American infantry, plus in 1949 The Soviets had their 1st nuclear test The Korean war was the true start of the cold war.

I’m with Untamed on this one. I don’t think Russia is the target at all. I’ve read the seven military classics of China and they all have one theme running through them—deception. IF they do something obvious its to conceal the true motive.

Besides, China has a huge population BUT As a German I can say we have fought the Russians on and off since the 15th Century and to anyone thinking about fighting them—you will get your asses handed to you.

Pete, Chinese are desperate guys very unlike to scrupulous Germans. They have had no chance against the USSR military machine and yet they made decision to attack. If Germans have ever thought they can’t win a war against Russia they would never tried to do that. China didn’t give a f~~~ about that.

China did not take over international waters for a start. That is MSM fake news. I have travelled to China and worked with them for many years in parts of Asia. Chinese are realists and a proud people. Unlike the MSM ‘first-hand’ descriptions they do not have horns on their heads and are just like you and I. They are termed arrogant because they don’t bow to the self-styled political gods from the USA.

The missiles are there for a purpose – you can read Noam Chomsky or John Pilger on this point and others. I have given a short version of the US pivot here and here. As long as they and Russia know what the missiles are for – they don’t really care what anyone else thinks. China is reclaiming two small islands close to their mainland as forward posts in response to about 300 US bases in Australasia set up by the US Military to close out the North and South China Seas – I would ask exactly who is the provocateur here? In 2015 the largest naval exercise since WWII to blockade the Straits of Malacca took place – to interdict the shipping route to China.

I believe China does not want a war – they prefer to make money – but like every other nation they will take steps after seeing what the US did in the Mid-East. The Vietnam war is only 40 years gone – many countries in that area of the world have lived through horrors and do not want the US back.

This includes the Philippines and regardless of the MSM lies do not want the US to start another proxy war on their doorstep. Duterte speaks for a lot of his countrymen in this regard.

If the US starts a war with China it should remember it did not win the last two in Asia. With the EU in trouble it will have to fight this one on its own. The Chinese have been around for over 5000 years. Sun Tzu wrote the Art of War. They know how to be patient. They know how to finish a fight.

I would ask Trump how many more young and good Americans does the US want to see come back in body bags? And for what? Are the last half-century of crippled and dead innocents not enough?
