If I knew about the future, I wouldn’t have destroyed my toys during my childhood. I used to have some nice 70s Hot Wheels. Now they’re in a landfill. I remember this one kid in the 80s told me he got some Star Wars action figures for his birthday. I didn’t care much for those toys, and I thought that was a lame birthday gift at the time. Little did I know! He can probably sell them for $10,000 today if he still has them.

I always enjoy auctions .. especially involving collectibles like old toy banks and autographs.

The first talking GI Joe with the space capsule and a GI “Jerry”. Yes a GI Joe accoutered as a German soldier complete with helmet and potato masher grenade. Into the land fill.

When my parents were married my mom threw out my dad’s precious Hot Wheels and airplane collection. She also allowed me and my brother (we were kids who didn’t know better) play my dad’s classic board games and mess it up. Why? So she can have a place for her ugly doll collection.

I forgot when, but some years ago, someone found in the attic an old NES game called Stadium Events and put it on eBay. She thought it was worth just a few dollars, but the auction ended about $90,000. Since then, people are trying to put it up on eBay hoping to get a big piece of money.

One of these days I’m going to put my old LHX attack copter game on E-bay. I have the original box, book, quick reference sheet AND the 5 inch floppy disk—can you believe it!

I still play it—why you ask; because I’ve never won the highest medal available and I’ve been playing it since 1986. SHHHHEEEEEZZZZ!

I used to have a floppy disk with about 1/4 of a BASIC program for a car racing game. I was planning to type in the entire program and run it on a Commodore 64, but I never got around to finishing it. It would’ve taken me a few days to type all that stuff, and I was too lazy.

Its tough to make money off newer stuff these days. A couple generations ago everyone’s parents threw out all their original Barbies and GI Joes so the surviving ones are worth a pretty penny. Once people started realizing the stuff was worth money they stopped throwing it out. I’ve got my Ninja Turtle collection from when I was a kid tucked away in my parent’s basement, but unfortunately so do a ton of other people. I can probably buy them for less today off of ebay after accounting for inflation than I paid for them as a kid lol.

I refuse to part with my old Ninja Turtle and Resident Evil figures, because I’m using them to decorate my second man cave.
