Great post man—and one of my all time favorite flicks. Months ago someone started a thread asking what man in movies/literature was a MGTOW icon. My vote went to Capt. Nemo.

“Nemo”… latin for “nobody”. Here’s a man who took his incredible wealth and skill and literally disappeared into a world where he could not be followed… the original John Galt.

The word “nemo” also shares a root with the greek word from which we derive “nemesis”… or “to give what is due”.

Nemo did not leave the world out of shame or even scientific curiousity but out of disgust for what it had become and in order to control his own fierce hatred for those who had assailed his culture, his crew and, in some tellings, his family.

MGTOW are not so unlike Nemo… for those of us who do not possess the great wealth and engineering skill required to build our own submarines, we can still remove ourselves from the world that has turned its back on us and live in peace and solitude at whatever depth of isolation our abilities will take us to.

    Fantastic, thanks for sharing.

And my all time favorite “nobody” is Clint Eastwood, Mr Spaghetti Western himself.

That movie was fantastic, much better than the book imo. James Mason is a fantastic actor! The ramming scene in the beginning scared the s~~~ out of me the first time I saw it. This second ramming isn’t as scary, but it has the epic close-ups of Nemo:

The killings that takes place isn’t an ideal scenario, one wants to escape humanity’s madness, not try to emulate it. My dream would be to have a submarine like the Nautilus.. to completely be independent. That fictional character was filled with killer’s rage.

The people he was killing were pirates and slavers. He owes nothing to society to take them down, but they did destroy his family, and of course the “law” did nothing to punish them, so he dispensed a little vigilante justice.

Despite being wronged by society many times in my life, I still believe that 2 wrongs don’t add up to 1 right! That’s why I’m a mgtow.com member. Had it been me I would have disappeared under the sea quietly to live the rest of my life in peace. That why I posted that homemade sub that took 24 years to build first. My sub would not be a warship.

I agree with this. I also don’t think killing pirates and slavers is wrong. Ultimately, Nemo got himself killed, so there’s a great case to be made for just quietly disappearing, but I don’t fault him for what he did.
