There’s two ways I know of that this can happen. First it’s attention seeking behavior. If they’re using the term “transabled” then it’s probably attention seeking.

The second, this can happen to veterans of war with PTSD if some of their comrades lost a limb in combat. It is brought on by feelings of guilt from surviving the war unscathed.

Either way, any doctor that cuts off a perfectly good limb should lose his license and probably prosecuted too.
