So recently the New York Times has posted three pages from Donald Trump’s 1995 tax returns from three different states. This in its self would not be a crime if the tax returns had been disclosed by Trump, but they weren’t. This actually make the publication a felony. Dean Baquet, the executive editor even said he would gladly go to jail to publish Donald Trump’s Tax Returns.

My question to you all is do you believe it is acceptable to break the law to defame a political candidate you don’t like. I don’t specifically mean what happened to Trump, that is just an example. Regardless of who you support what would you think if the law was broken to make them or one of their opponents look bad.

Here is a link to the story if you have not seen it.

if you break the law, you should be punished. whether or not i agree with their reason/excuse for doing it, i agree with them being punished for wilfully dong it.

I’m curious to know if the tables were reversed and the New York Times printed something illegally in an attempt to make Hillary look bad would people agree with it.

I don’t believe it is inexcusable to break the to discourage your opponent or their supporters, but some people believe that the ends justify the means.

I’m also curious as to what people think about it. I eat sleep and breathe politics. It’s also nice to get other people’s opinions as I am often a little too deep to be objective.

I don’t agree with breaking the law regardless of if it benefits a candidate you like or not…but what I can’t understand is wtf is the big deal about candidates releasing tax returns? Candidates running for office should all be audited by the IRS, but if they aren’t breaking any laws I honestly don’t care what they paid in taxes. We all know our tax system is broken, I can’t blame a guy for playing within the rules to lower his tax rate…if people are so upset Trump may not have paid any income taxes for a given year, maybe they should start voting for candidates who want to simplify the tax code and get rid of loopholes, writes offs, and deductions rather than candidates who want to soak the rich, yet only seem to hammer the middle class more and more.

I apologize, it wasn’t my intent to come off trollish. Since most of my time is spent at a college due to work and classes it’s not a topic I can discuss with many people around me and continue working and going to school there. I have been wanting to talk about it in the few days since it happened.

but what I can’t understand is wtf is the big deal about candidates releasing tax returns?

The only reason the tax return thing is made to be a big deal is because the Hillary Clinton campaign thinks they can gain ground by saying he’s not as rich as he says he is. A tactic which I’m sure is doomed to failure.

all Trump has to do is point to the clinton foundation and ask for their records..
we’ll see who has the money !

It would make my week to see him do that. I assume he’ll probably bring something up about it in the next debate. I’m sure she’s working very hard to make sure nobody finds out we’re all that’s money came from that they’ve earned over the past eight years. After all you can’t hide all the bodies in the same location.

When you say breaking the law…I think of Watergate. Not Trump’s tax returns. All I know is when Billy was in office we pulled dead bodies out of our embassy in Nairobi. We were talking about dress stains. Hillary becomes Madame Secretary and we lose more ambassadors in Tripoli. Sometimes breaking the law is the least of the problem.

There is a reason there is societal break down and a growing powder keg. The rules don’t apply if you are of a particular political ideology.

It won’t be long till no one needs to follow the rules.

I think it’s funny how people are so hung up on Trump’s tax return’s, like the average American can even comprehend what a business tax return even consists of.

Exactly, every day I see more and more people disregarding laws. Littering laws, traffic laws, insurance laws, pet leash laws, nobody cares anymore because nothing seems to get enforced.

Very true. Men like Slobodon Milosovich. Is it a war crime to invade another nation so you can keep a Navy base like Putin did? The Ukrainians think so.

Trump hasn’t handle this well. His taxes and saying he will fix things, isn’t playing well. It only sells because of spin, and anti-Hillary, and a wish there was someone besides Hillary.

If he came out, showed his taxes, show how they are broken and then showed how he would fixed it, he could claim the high ground, but he hasn’t done that. He has done nothing at all to show why he is anything. It is just “you don’t have a choice”.
