Something is not right with her statement, as children born in Canada to parents from other countries were not automatically “Canadian” until recently, and that is still debatable.

I also doubt she was born prior to 1982 when Canada was legally the Dominion of Canada until the Canadian Constitution was repatriated from Great Britain.

I personally know several Canadians, who served careers in the Canadian forces, born to Canadian Forces/civilian personnel, at “Canadian Forces” bases in Europe, and raised in Canada who found out after they retired that they were not “Canadian” and had to fight to be recognized as Canadian.

I bring up the Canadian Constitution (1962) because in the late summer of 1981 I began the process of enlisting in the British Army (as a Canadian). The “technicality” of being a “subject of the British Commonwealth” was still permitted. However in the spring of 1982 that technicality was closed due to Canada becoming a sovereign State as Canada now held its own Constitution. I would have to emigrate to Britain, become a citizen, and then apply.
