In one of the final scenes when Harrison Ford’s character and Rachael (the female replicant) are leaving his apartment as Ford has already decided to save her. With the next scene of them together on a train getting away.

But the other detective, Gaff had been to the apartment prior and left one of his origami creations on a table in it as a way of letting them know he had stopped by and was going to let Ford leave with her.

He had made a couple of those during the movie. But the one he left at the end was of a unicorn.

Rachael is seen knocking it over as they leave.

    A unicorn.

Representing what Ford was leaving with & saving.

A woman in every way, but not human. And it could be argued, the message was that in order to find a unicorn, she would have to be a replicant. Because human female unicorns could never exist.

Actually, the origami unicorn at the end of the movie represented that Gaff knew about Deckard’s (Ford) dream of a unicorn, hinting that Deckard is a replicant.

To be fair, earlier in the film Rachael did save Deckard’s life. And Deckard realized that replicants were people as well. Due to this, Deckard saving Racheal’s life at the end of the movie is not a straightforward white knight action on Deckard’s part.

I have never read the book witch i find hard to remember at this timd but i think it is called “why do people dream of electric sheep “. If you notice as well decard has a dream of a white unicorn which reflects on yhe paper unicorn showing the detective new and was giving decard a hint he was not real but a replacent him self . The detdctive above decard was really the over seer and was convinced they were more human than replicant which changed his emotions at the dnd .Take note of the detectives emotions towards the end . Hd jumped ship because he was convinced rachael and deckard were to close to human and looked at thdm that way .that is what the whole movie is really about .

I agree. Gaff let them go because he realize simply existing should not be a crime.

Right after the climax of the movie, Gaff even send Deckard running to check on Rachael, by saying, “To bad she won’t live. But, then again. Who does?”

Gaff knew and he gave them a chance to get out before it was too late.

Another interesting fact. During the filming of the movie, the actor who played Gaff, Edward James Olmos, came up with most of the cyberpunk words, comments, and odd language spoken in the movie.

Of the various cuts Black Runner film, I prefer the 1992 Director’s Cut. That film cut drops the awful narration and shows how the movie should have been presented in theaters.

And the soundtrack to the Black Runner movies is one of the most original and brilliant early techno pieces of music I have ever heard. Each piece of music, while odd, captures each of the scenes as they should.

Such as the intro scene music with the cityscape. And the “Tears in the Rain” speech by Roy would not been as powerful without that sorrowful music playing the background.

Reading this topic made me watch the film again after so many years.

I notice the replicants sent the sexy young girl (Pris, the sex robot) to snare J.F Sebastian, who is a white knight. Pris uses seduction and emotional blackmail to take advantage of JF Sebastians hospitality. Even Roy (the blonde replicant leader) says he’s doing all this s~~~ out of his concern for Pris

I noticed that all the (allegedly) human men were MGTOW and the main women in the film were robots.

Maybe the unicorn was a “false memory” implanted in Deckard Bladerunner 26353 and Gaff knows that. Just like Deckard new what Racheals implanted memories are. I got a hint that Decker might be a replicant when you could just make out their distinctive shining of the eyes, in the scene when he said he wouldn’t go after Rachael but somebody would. Maybe the cops needed someone with no emotion, to do the job of a Bladerunner without falling for any of the female replicants. If Deckard didn’t fall for Rachael he would have “retired” her.

Interstingly one of the replicants, Leon was “born” on 10th April 2017. It amazes me what people in the past thought today would be like.
