In the UK it still seams to be acceptable to use the word “Binmen” in polite conversation. I imagine once the PC brigade get round to it will have to say Refuse and waste coordination operative or some such.

So when walking to work this morning and I am passed by 6 binlorrys off to make their rounds with 3 ‘person peoples’ in the cab of each. 4 out of the 6 are being driven by a woman with 2 men riding shotgun.
I don’t know if the driver outranks the passenger, but they will be staying out of the weather while the men do the running and lifting.

So up to now this work has not been coveted by women which I imagine is why calling them binMEN still fly’s. Now look how clever we are by encouraging women to join this nasty male dominated environment, further proving that girls are just as good as boys… just as long as they get the cushy jobs with limited lifting.

women are staying in the cab and avoiding the dirty work as usual. maybe we need another winter of discontent and men go on strike again until they have quotas for more women clearing the garbage and doing the dirty work

this is what happens when men stop playing the game

    winter of discontent

“Binmen” (“Müllmann”) has been replaced by the more PC “disposal technician” (“Entsorgungstechniker”).

    Binmen…
Binmen get a thumbs up from me every wednesday morning.
And at the end of the year i distribute a handsfull of Euros, as they are percieved by the general pop. as the bottom of the barrel. Even worse than a burger flipper.

    Not by me.

THE PLANTATION HAS NOW TURNED INTO THE KILLING FIELDS . WOMAN ARE NOW ROLLING CAMBODIAN STYLE .

In the UK the geezer driving the truck used to be the most experienced member of the crew. You had to spend a good few years lugging the bins around until you got to that position. It looks like the snowflakes are bypassing the old school rules and going straight to easy street. I’ve never seen a woman binman in my area but it doesn’t surprise me they are getting a pussy pass to the driving seat.

I wasn’t sure what a binman was until I read Muglintars post–OK I get it. While we are on the subject of language what is/does it mean to be “shopped”? Someone used this the other day and I couldn’t figure it out. then coincidentally that night I was watching a Hogan’s Heroes re-run and Newkirk the British prisoner used the same term…what does this mean?

Sorry should have said garbage man. Don’t know if garbage man is “low level” and man dominated enough in the US that it’s still an acceptable term?

Also to be shopped is to be squealed/snitched on.

Don’t know about the U.K. but where I live I heard some moron refer to garbage men as “trash technicians” about one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.

Having a girlfriend is like owning a gun, the longer your around it, the more you want to shoot it.

    Where I have lived.
The term has evolved to include Sanitation Collection Engineer, Refuse Handling Specialist, Public Sanitation Technician, Waste Management Technician/Specialist/Engineer. They MEN who do the job that I have talked to laugh and still call themselves “Garbageman”.
It is frigging near impossible to get a job with them though.

There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it

I will literally vomit on anyone who uses that word seriously in my presence, and anyone who refers to binmen as engineers or technicians.

Yes, they do an important job, I’m grateful for this.

No, it is not engineering nor technical.

It is an insult to engineers and technicians to put the job of binmen in the same category as the job of an engineer.
