Yea, I saw that this morning. Unless SI’s demographic has changed dramatically somehow, they’ve completely misread their target audience.

Halima Aden, a Somali American model who was born in a refugee camp in Kenya, “has proved that there is a place for modest Muslim women in the fashion industry,” the magazine announced on Monday, declaring that the 21-year-old would be “making history.”

That’s correct. SI swimsuit edition is just not the place for modest swimwear. I would say that she should be modeling for modest clothing makers, but their shoppers aren’t looking to buy hijabs. The reality is that her clothing restrictions, specifically clothing designed to mask whatever beauty the wearer may have, isn’t going to sell well to the masses.

Seriously though, isn’t the purpose of a hijab? They were worn by women to hide their bodies so that men are not tempted in anyway. You were only supposed to wear other clothing around your husband. It’s not about modesty at all, as you certainly could wear other clothing, and still be modest. And wouldn’t wearing makeup only or trying to be cute in any way serve to counteract that modesty?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” Well, having sexy, slim women in bikinis is a great way to market a magazine to men. When I was a teenager, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue was a big deal every February. It was like a G-rated girlie magazine that guys could buy if they were under 18. And every woman in that issue had a toned/tanned sexy body. But now, these politically correct marketing gurus would rather photograph women who never work out and eat donuts all day for the sake of getting points from feminists and social justice warriors–even if these people aren’t buying the magazine!

And now they feature a woman who’s covered from her head to her ankles in a “burkini,” and they expect guys to spend their money to see that. I don’t even think Muslim men would pay for that. Are the Sports Illustrated executives interested in getting diversity points or are they interested in selling magazines? If you promote a magazine to men who like sports and sexy women and then push politically correct/feminist/religious agendas to them, you’re going to lose your customers!

What’s next? Are they going to put a woman on the cover dressed up as a nun? How the hell do they expect guys to fap to that? I have a hunch that some of their feminist employees are trying to destroy the magazine. For there’s one thing a feminist can’t stand: seeing men having a good time!

The picture does nothing for me but that is exactly what the outfit is intended to do. Its not a reason to buy the magazine but if you have to tick a politically correct box at least take a meaningless photo of an attractive woman not ram a fat ugly one in my face.
