    Hi there guys,

I know this might seem somewhat odd to maybe a few of you out there. But imagine there was an EMP attack happening (means that basically all of the electricity is going to be shut down) and you would have no resort left but to move back into the woods (and try to survive there). How much of the every day’s “luxury” could you do without and how would you cope with that…? I know this is merely some kind of a thoughts experiment here but still maybe a relevant one.

For instance I recently purchased a steel flint and some special roots wood containing lots of natural rasin. So say if you got that (and a few other essential basic survival kit gadgets) for how long do you reckon could you survive on that (given you got some basic hunting and manufacturing skills such as for building a shelter for yourself plus to chase down some wild animals, killing and slaughtering them etc.)…?

Now at the stall where I bought it (just in case), I’ve been told that all I need to make some wood fire out in the open plains (for barbecuing some meat and/or to warm myself up) is some dry leaves and/or dry bark or dry wood, the steel flint and maybe some cotton wool for the initial ignition. Once I was back home I actually tried it out (with the raisin containing root’s wood and some cotton wool) and yes it worked very nicely indeed. So once you got your fire burning you probably are like half way there, all you would need then is just to hunt some wild animals do the slaughter etc. (ie. in the forest if you are there) for eventually being able to cook some food. Could you do all that..?

As for myself I suppose it would still require quite some practice (especially in terms of hunting to be successful) but it’s still reassuringly good to know that I at least could well make a fire in the worst case imaginable. Now if any of you guys might have some interesting hints in terms of hunting (or other useful info from the net possibly with some helpful links) I would gladly appreciate them.

Anyway, those army survival steel flint sets (with a built in compass) have got the patent number(s): 2011300112274.8 or 2011300112172.9 respectively so maybe you can look them up on the internet in case you might be interested to purchase such a set as well …

Well, as long as we still got the internet available (in the here and now) why shouldn’t we do some exchange (especially on this platform) about that subject (you know, just in case…)..? Because with all the modern technology that we thankfully have at out hands nowadays in modern times, I bet quite a few of us might well have unlearned such vital skills for bare essential survival …

    Anyway, cheers guys.

    Ned T.

The preparation stuff sounds good, but it would only be effective for localized temporary problems. If the fan was totally s~~~-hit I could probably do OK for a very little while, but with over 300 million people running around just in the US, there wouldn’t be much real hope long-term. I wouldn’t worry too much about hunting. The available game would be gone in… well it’s really already gone, There are a few deer, but not enough to feed everyone. Lots of fishing where I am, but there’d be a couple hundred thousand other anglers crowding every puddle. Unless food distribution could be arranged pretty quickly we’d all be walking to the FEMA camps pretty soon. There is essentially no wild food left when stacked up against what the demand would be.
    Then there’s the water.

Thank you for the hint for the site, Bunker Mode / Stealthy, will check it out. Well, I see your points, Theronius.

Mind you where I am (Europe) there’s probably a few more deer and other wild animals around than in the US, but then again you guys probably have got quite an advantage when it comes to measures of self defense, since as you know we do have very strict weapon laws over here, but anyway good thoughts and inputs gentlemen. Being fully aware that this topic is a very theoretical one, keep ’em coming if you like.

Honestly I used to joke with a cop friend when the shtf, said best best bet head to the walmart distribution center load up head to the lakes from there & hope for the best, bec the zombies be coming from then on. Been torrent streaming prepper, bushcraft, survival, self defense, combat manuals all last year. His response was we have a lot of ar-15’s, and I hope you have a lot of ammo & diesel for them generators!

Survival has a lot to do with knowledge of the biome you are in. Foraging, hunting, shelter building, everything. More luxury = heavier pack. Two is one and one is none. 5 core items:

Fire: Understand concept of friction firelighting, ferrocerium rod, parabolic lens, magnifying glass, batteries and brillo methods of firestarting. Charcloth tinder. Cotton ball + vaseline firestarter. Pure ethanol for when stuff is too damp.

Hunting: try to keep a slingshot in your pack. deadly weapon, lightweight, non-bulky, free ammo. go for squirrels and small game. 22 caliber break down pellet rifle fits in backpack.

Trying to just answer what you asked. Would rather do that and deal with specifics because survival can be an in depth subject.

    Cheers for that one, Snake.

So, here’s the gadget that I got for myself the other day in an explanation video:

I’d need a significant source of fire where I live. There is snow here, sometimes in ridiculous quantities. I’ve built little cooking stoves out of 2 tin cans that work pretty well for heating a cuppa something, or frying a trout. They put out a lot of heat from really crappy fuel like twigs and such.. Weighs very little too. Maybe a bigger version. Lots of stuff like that on U-tube. Just about anything you can think of for prepping.
For starting the fire, disposable lighters. Who can argue with that?
This summer there was a big scary monster of a forest fire just down the hill from me, and I was on an evacuation alert. I didn’t have to actually go, but I had to be packed and ready to hit the road. It’s interesting to see what you put in the car when that might be all you get to keep. I had one box of papers, some camping and fishing equipment, a couple changes of clothes, a laptop, two fishing poles and a ukulele,

Ned Trent……… the key to starting and keeping a fire burning is………….

yes a spark is needed of course,

But you need to spend a lot of time preparing and gathering all of the fuel materials needed in their various sizes. You need small ignatibles to catch the spark once that begins to smolder you add dry bark or dry leaves.

Once a flame grows you can slowly start adding small diameter twigs, and as your fire grows you can add a little larger pieces of wood.

The spark is the key, but your fire is only going to last as long as the fuel you invested time in gathering! After that material is burnt up your fire will slowly begin to die…………… unless you add more fuel to it.

Finally…………. never add more fuel (burnable material) than your fire can handle. Otherwise your choking it from breathing oxygen.

Cheers for all of those very inspiring links, brothers. Now that’s what I call a great constructive self improving exchange (tipping my hat)…

I wouldn’t mind roastin a rabbit with you guys. And shooting and hunting some deer. That would be fun. I actually thought once that society would literally have to go back to the stone age and literally speaking I think that it going that way right now. I am not military by any means but s~~~ I wanna learn. Sign me up for some classes.

Society live's as if we have reached the pinnacle of human potential. Technological Advancement and Innovation, intellectualism, critical thinking is substituted for useless innovations, nasty narcissistic games, tyrannical laws that destroy the very foundation of family, and the world as we know it.
