    Gender pay: Theresa May attacks ‘burning injustice’

    More feminist misuse of terminology and using figures for their own purposes.

    UK companies are required to show their “gender pay gap” which is the comparison of the average earnings of men vs women.

    The gender pay gap is pretty much useless information as it does not take into account working hours, specific job role or anything like a realistic comparison.

    It is not equal pay which is the same money for doing the same job.

    What is the difference between the gender pay gap and equal pay?

    The pay gap isn’t the same as equal pay. Equal pay – that men and women doing the same job should be paid the same – has been a legal requirement for 47 years.
    Under the Equal Pay Act 1970, and more recently, the Equality Act 2010, it is unlawful to pay people unequally because they are a man or a woman. This applies to all employers, no matter how small.

    So, a company might have a gender pay gap if a majority of men are in top jobs, despite paying male and female employees the same amount for similar roles.

    That hasn’t stopped Theresa May presenting it as a feminist outrage. In an article linked within the one above she says:

    Britain’s gender pay gap is a “burning injustice” which must be tackled as the whole of society will remain “poorer” if outdated employment practices go unchallenged, the Prime Minister warned on Tuesday.

    In an article for The Telegraph, Theresa May admits that the gender pay figures make “uncomfortable reading” for many businesses as she compares today’s battle for workplace equality to the struggle for universal suffrage a century ago.

    The Prime Minister’s article comes ahead of Wednesday’s deadline for larger firms to disclose the average pay gap between male and female workers.

    Actual equal pay figures show bugger all difference generally and in many sectors women have higher pay.

    Misinterpretation of data, misrepresentation of results, indignant outrage and bulls~~~ conclusions.

    Unfortunately I don’t think anyone in Parliament has a pair of bollocks to call bulls~~~ on this.

    Crude gender pay gap reporting measures render results meaningless

    Summary:

    Despite an influx of new gender pay gap data – ranging from negative gaps, to gaps exceeding 60% – the government’s new pay gap reporting measures fail to provide any meaningful insight into equal or fair pay for men and women in the workplace.

    The requirement to measure pay gaps across entire organisations (rather than between comparable roles within organisations), as well as the omission of necessary data, renders the majority of the findings meaningless.

    Examples in this briefing, including data from HSBC, EasyJet and Phase Eight, illustrate how the crude figures that have been released create a misleading picture, especially for companies that have hired large numbers of female staff into roles in lower pay quartiles.

    The only area in which the data has been reported in a usable way is the second-to-last measurement: proportion of males and females receiving a bonus payment. Select data (as of 30 March 2018) for the FTSE 100 companies on this measure reveals a more positive picture for women than the rest of the data.

    The incentives created by the pay gap reporting measures are not simply to hire more women into senior roles, but to hire fewer women into junior or lower paid roles – regardless of their qualifications – to achieve the closest calculation a company can get to a 0% pay gap.

    Next she will be saying the world is flat and the earth is the centre of the universe and we need to base Government policies around that.

    The fact that there’s a PM that is so out of touch with facts, reality, evidence and even just basic common sense is deeply disturbing.

    She is not fit for office. She should be removed on mental health grounds.

    By their p~~~-poor way of measuring things:

    In my company, which I have just started, the figures for women’s pay will be very easy to calculate.

    Number of women in company = 0
    Number of women ever going to be employed by my company = 0

    Gender pay gap :
    = Average male salary / average female salary
    = divide by zero error
