I thought the message of Platoon was absolute drivel – “rich white boy goes to fight in Vietnam because he doesn’t think it’s right poor black kids have to, smokes pot and shoots his own war criminal sergeant in a fit of righteous indignation”? What a crock of s~~~… beautifully filmed and acted though.

Oliver Stone prob made it while off his face on coke. Great film tho. Even if the message is weak/whack.

    Bunny was a f~~~ing c~~~.

Again I think Platoon was a far superior film to apocolypse now.

I’d even say full metal jacket was better -the scene where private pile goes nuts an kills the drill sergeant

teh scene near the end with the child sniper

I honetsly think Apocolyps enow is one of the most overrated flms ever I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times an decah tiem I find it tedious.

Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory was an excellent film in my opinion. There’s a character for each level of the command chain.

It shows FUBAR where a civilian can be aware of it. The end of the film is classic, war isn’t over till it’s over.

Not a serious war film but Kelly’s Heroes is an absolute classic. As a bonus, there’s barely a woman in sight for the entire film.

I’ll add a couple of lesser known war films I love, 1977’s Cross of Iron and 1993’s Stalingrad. Both depict German soldiers beginning to acknowledge their looming defeat by Russia. The beginning and end of Cross of Iron feature compelling montages of real footage, set to ironic music.

Without Apocalypse Now, we would never have had this wonderful scene from Hot Shots! Part Deux.. 😀

Black Hawk Down is a very good one. And The Hurt Locker is excellent too.

Hey Dashing, have you seen the new Kong movie, Skull Island? I went to see it with my friend and it wasn’t actually too bad – as it was set in the seventies, it was definitely more of a war movie than a monster movie. My friend described it as “Apocalypse Now meets Jurassic Park” and I’d say that that summary is pretty accurate. At times it was hard to give a s~~~ about any of the characters, but the action scenes were a lot of fun.

It should more be called redundancy now. But after the Vietnam War the A10 went into production. There is no better close ground support aircraft than the A-10 Warthog. Brrrrrrrrrrrrt..

All the bulls~~~e aside it’s all great fun and games till somebody loses an eye. War is bulls~~~, don’t be cannon fodder

I love Apocalypse Now and I think all the best war movies raise serious questions about the loss of humanity that comes with that territory.

    “Platoon” was ok.
    “Saving Private Ryan” was good.
    “Full Metal Jacket” was amazing.
I fell asleep every time I tried to watch “The Thin Red Line”
I’m not sure if it qualifies as a war movie but I thought “Cold Mountain” was a great portrayal of the aftermath of the Civil War and how bleak things were.

If you still have Netflix check out “The Siege of Jadotville” which I thought was really good.
