Just yesterday, I switched over to Linux Mint Mate 17.3
So far, I love it a lot more than Windows. I can even update all my programs with a click of a button without having to close them out or shutdown the computer.
The other day what ticked me off and pushed me over the edge to switch, is that I got a popup on my Windows 7 machine.
It was a popup regarding the dreaded Windows 10. It didn’t give me a choice to click “No, I don’t want to update.”
It had these choices:
“Update now to Windows 10.”
“Update later to Windows 10.”
I hate that f~~~ing s~~~. I tried Windows 10 for about a month when it first came out and reverted back to Windows 7 because it was laggy as s~~~ especially with Firefox and Tor.
It also tries to exploit more money out of consumers by replacing traditional Windows apps such Solitaire with an ad based version. And you have to pay $2 dollars every month to get rid of them. I fear at this rate, Windows will become more of a service and pay to update operating system.
I’m not worried about games because I have a Ps3 with plenty of games to keep me entertained. I’m not worried about Windows programs because there will always be a Linux equivalent.
I just know after yesterday, I’ll never use another Windows system ever again (unless it’s for work).
I use this to keep my computers clean of windows 10.

I’d use that, but Microsoft forces installs that update eventually.Whether or not you remove that update from your Windows 7 machine.
I picked up a MacBook Air 3 or 4 years ago – light, fast, dependable, good apps, minimal bulls~~~.
I didn’t realize MS is doing forced updates to Win10, thanks for the heads up. I don’t think i’ll ever go back to MS.

Anonymous42I purchased a new machine with Windows 8, I brought it back and I’m still using my XP.
Microsoft is only thinking about Microsoft, the customer and his wishes seem to come last. That’s what happens when you become to big, YOU FAIL!Yeah. If it wasn’t for the Windows only stuff and legacy applications. It would be cast into hell immediately.
Microsoft ruined their operating system with the metrosexual, dumbed down stuff seen in 8 and beyond.

I run a network of 1500 computers, have to use windows because accounting software runs it. I use my own windows update server to download and distribute patches. After every month’s “patch Tuesday” I wait a month before rolling out last months patches. Any Microsoft “ninja” updates are caught by the community. I never deploy optional updates, just security updates. Because the computers are on a domain Microsoft does not deploy the “nagware” just the little windows 10 icon. The GWX control panel lets me monitor and crush the f~~~er if it trys to install the update. I also have 3 virtualized windows 7 pro workstations set without GWX and not on our Windows update server. I have them on a rotation to restart once a day. If windows 10 update creeps in I can identify what patch is getting in.
For example here is this little patch f~~~er which microsoft ninja’ed.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3042155/microsoft-windows/windows-patch-kb-3139929-when-a-security-update-is-not-a-security-update.htmlHowever the big cheekspreader patch was this one. Uninstall this f~~~er.

This appears to be a disturbing trend with software sales these days. For example, Adobe is pulling this s~~~ off with their Creative Cloud. You got to pay $20 per month to use one of their apps ($10 to use both Photoshop and Lightroom). Or you can pay $50 per month to use all of their apps. That’s it, only three payment options. There is no in between if you want to use two or more and don’t want apps you are not going to use.
Needless to say, this p~~~ed a lot of people off. If you are going to use Adobe products in the long run (like guys whose careers revolve around Adobe apps), Creative Cloud is FAR more expensive than CS6. Luckily, I managed to snag a deal on Master Collection CS6. Saved around thousands of dollars.

I don’t do cloud applications. If they won’t provide me with the software to run locally, then I won’t use it.

Just use a degausser (for HDDs) or microwave oven (for SSDs)! No more Windows!
Windows 8.1 update feature to Windows 10. The equivalent of computer herpes. S~~~ just keeps coming back.

Everything I’m seeing with Micro$haft, is trying to move the PC from a buy/install OS, to a software as a service.
Their ultimate bottom line wet dream is that day you go to your local “Best Buy” and buy a computer, which in reality is just a dumb terminal. Limited computer specs, not up-gradable, something of a modern day version, of the mainframe terminal from the 70’s.
Then once your fire it up, the thin client presents you with a subscription page, where you purchase a Micro$haft account. You pay by the month, with the price dictating what applications you are allowed to use.
Your dumb terminal… er I mean… “personal” computer, is simply nothing more than a screen, keyboard, mouse and glorified modem to allow you to run programs on Micro$hafts mainframes and see the results. Everything you do is on Micro$hafts systems, all your documents, your gaming profiles, your videos, images and private data in on THEIR server farms.
Sure you can print stuff out, but I would not be surprised if they charge an add-on fee for local data access (copy to flash drive, print, etc.)
So what happens if you don’t pay your Micro$haft sub, well your kicked off their system until you do. No more access to your… oh you thought your documents on their system was yours… ho! ho! ho! Aren’t you a silly boy! Didn’t you read their terms of “service”?
Everything you do on THEIR system is owned by them, which they can use for anything they damn well please… including prostituting your data for marketing, sale to “trusted” vendor partners and telemarketers, for additional profit.

MGTOW Man: Hate them back; it works for me.Everything I’m seeing with Micro$haft, is trying to move the PC from a buy/install OS, to a software as a service.

Yup, they want to drag everything back to the mainframe days, where you had to buy time on the damned thing.
Although I imagine if you don’t pay they’ll just delete your account and everything in it.
Too bad that Talos (POWER) Secure Workstation is so expensive. Would be a neat modern alternative to X86-64.

They already have those. They’re called chromebooks! My 6 year old laptop that I’m using right now has better specs than the newest chromebooks. And the price I paid 6 years ago wasn’t much more than they’re charging now for these “chromebooks”. I just put a real version of Linux on it, not one requiring me to pay a GOOGLE TAX!
I can totally see a version of Windows requiring you to always be online. And if you haven’t paid the monthly fee you can’t access any of “your” files. Just put everything on Windows servers and hope that they don’t use your personal information against you. And it doesn’t matter if you “encrypt” your files when Microsoft knows the encryption algorithm and they know how the seed values are generated! They can always get help from their old buddy Intel. They can put some undocumented instructions creating some kind of backdoor. Good luck reverse engineering Intel chips without a UV or X-ray or electron microscope!I have my own beefs with Microsoft, and it’s more than I thought after thinking about it.
1 I hate having that icon in my system tray to pressure me into upgrading to Windows 10. After seeing the 8/.1 and the 10, I’m in no big hurry to end my relationship with Windows 7 Pro. I feel like it pushing me into it, when I don’t want it. Windows 10 looks more like a combination of 7 and 8, and I have no support for the 8. So why would I want to give up my entire Windows 7 for Windows 10 is only half 7 and half a system I don’t support?
2 I don’t like having to make accounts for everything I install on my computer, including my printer/scanner. It took me 2 hours to install it, and set up all the accounts. It’s not like back in the XP era when all you had to do was plug it into the USB slot, put in a disc software, turn it on and it was fully installed in 5 minutes or less. Now they want me to have an ink account, and several others just to be able to print paper. Stupid!
3 I don’t like it that if you want to recover the system, you need to do it on the desktop. I liked it back in the XP era where if you wanted to restore the system, you just press F10 and it goes.
4 I don’t like being forced to upgrading my system behind my back, and then the computer makes itself restart. Worst part is when you’re in the middle of a big project and you have to start over, because the computer makes you install something without you knowing it and it forces a restart. After too much of that, I changed my settings to make it my choice when things get installed.
5 I got VERY mad about having to ditch my XP computer back in 2014 when they stopped supporting it. I had to get another computer, which in the end turned out better. But still, I don’t like having to buy another computer to go along with their services.
6 I use Explorer, but I don’t like how it keeps (NOT RESPONDING) too much. In fact, in this page I’m typing in now, I got a mgtow.com is not responding RECOVER PAGE window.
All things I mentioned on top of the rest of you mentioned as major issues with Microsoft is what you get when you get too many of the geniuses involved in a computer project; you get those annoying issues. So all those Microsoft headaches are because of the geniuses. They’re just people just keeping Bill Gates the riches guy in the world, and they know how to do it.

It’s obvious. They want to see everything you’re printing! And who knows, maybe Microsoft has to approve of everything you want to print. If they want to stop you from printing something you’ll get some kind of “error” message.
It’s because Windows wants to maintain a monopoly on software, so they’re trying to wrangle people into using their proprietary operating software. The best thing you should do is give them the middle finger and use Linux and/or another copyleft form of software.
I have ditched windows back in 2010 and never been happier. I went from windows to linux and to OS X. Now I use a live cd for linux and OS X. I hate windows with a passion.

I’m actually get sick of Explorer, but it’s the one I still prefer most. I mean early this afternoon, my computer prevented me from getting into MGTOW. I don’t know if it’s my computer having an attitude problem, or if MGTOW was actually down earlier.

I admit I was a little confused by this. I’m not sure the source of the MS-Hate, I’ve used Windows since 3.1. But I think it stems from the stance (from MS) that the average user doesn’t know, or give to s~~~s about knowing, how you use their OS. They just want it to work. Unfortunately, like most things, if you have a lack of understanding and agency you allow someone else (MS) to make decisions for you. Its really important to learn the OS you want to use, whether it is Linux, OSX, or Windows. Almost every issue people have brought up here is solvable with a little research and some applied know-how. I also understand that most of you have the stance of “Well I shouldn’t have to fix it, it should come that way” but unfortunately the majority of MS’s user want it set up in such way where they can be sheep and never have to f~~~ with it. As I said, they don’t know, and can’t be bothered to learn, how to do that.
