Once In A Lifetime – Talking Heads
From The Very Talented David Byrne.
Younger Men Here, LISTEN AND READ THE LYRICS.
FOR THE OLDER GUYS HERE, D’YA FEEL OLD YET!? đ
Once In A Lifetime;
And you may find yourself
Living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself
In another part of the world
And you may find yourself
Behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house
With a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, well
How did I get here?Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing undergroundAnd you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing undergroundSame as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever wasWater dissolving and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Under the water, carry the water
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again in the silent water
Under the rocks, and stones there is water undergroundLetting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing undergroundAnd you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go to?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right? Am I wrong?
And you may say yourself, “My God! What have I done?”Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again in to the silent water
Under the rocks and stones, there is water undergroundLetting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing undergroundSame as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Look where my hand was
Time isn’t holding up
Time isn’t after us
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever wasLetting the days go by (same as it ever was)
Letting the days go by (same as it ever was)
Once in a lifetime
Letting the days go by
Letting the days go byBRILLIANT Eh Fellas!?

Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!
Give 'em NOTHING, not even an answer!
#GenderSegragationNow!Forgot about that song, a lot of MGTOW wisdom.
"what a waste of a life, to marry, give up your freedom, just for the hope of not dying alone. Don't get married Son."
Forgot about that song, a lot of MGTOW wisdom.
Oh yeah Wally, MUCH WISDOM from this,……it’s a modern masterpiece.

It’s funny you mentioning this song Vern.
I first heard it as a kid and didn’t listen to the meaning behind the lyrics.I vividly remember hearing it again when I was 20 understood what the lyrics were all about. I swore I wouldn’t let them happy to me. I was with my first girlfriend sat in a friend’s house – he was there with his girlfriend. We were smoking s~~~.
I got it on CD in my car now and listen to it fairly regular and acknowledge I did it. I let the days go by.
Despite success academically and having a good job, two beautiful children which I have half the time (usually far more than that) – I’m sat here at the age of 45 thinking ‘what the F~~~ just happened to the last 25 years!?’But despite that I wouldn’t rewind the clock. What’s done is done.
I need to keep my head down and work hard to provide for my kids but sometimes I wish I could raise an army and start a revolution.
Fantasy yes. But f~~~- don’t we all feel like that? The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape, finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. Marcus Aurelius

Fantasy yes. But f~~~- donât we all feel like that?Yeah Doc, like the words in the song,
And you may say yourself, âMy God! What have I done?â
I too remember this song vividly, when it was first released (late 70’s/early 80’s?), and although I was also, far too young to understand, it has been in my head EVER SINCE, I love it when a good song does that!!
But lately I’ve been ‘humming’ it to myself, particularly the first line, about living in a shotgun shack, and the second verse, where he re-visits the first verses ‘achievements’ and ALL HAS BEEN LOST.
But the creamer line is in the first chorus,
Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
INTO THE BLUE AGAIN AFTER THE MONEY’S GONE
Once in a lifetime, water flowing undergroundI HOPE THE YOUNGER GUYS HERE, PLAY THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN and AVOID the MISTAKES THAT I MADE,……SAME AS IT EVER WAS!

Yes Vern,
I think the message is that despite letting the days go by and realising it- as reflected in the line ‘my God what have I done?’I think that ‘into the blue again’ is the sign of hope that it’s not to late.
Reminds me of that classic line in stairway to heaven
‘There are two roads you can go by but in the long run, there’s still time to change the road you’re on’.The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape, finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. Marcus Aurelius
Couldn’t agree more Doc, there IS ALWAYS HOPE, but as you said before, MY GOD, the years just fly past, and all of a sudden, it’s middle age and we realise, that we are probably ‘half way’.
SO MAKE IT HAPPEN FELLAS, SO YOU’RE NOT REGRETTING YOUR LIFE CHOICES.
"What made you think, there'd be a livin' in sheep?, Eat, Work, Eat Work and Sleep" - Mark Knopfler.
True Vern. True. Buddha said ‘If I am to die tomorrow I can still learn something today’.
Middle age is good time in life if looked at the right way.
The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape, finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. Marcus Aurelius
Guys, this is pretty profound. I’m another one that didn’t listen to the lyrics of this song. I often reflect on my life (I’m 67 now) and think about the mistakes I’ve made. Almost all of those mistakes involved women. In fact, my biggest regrets in life involve women. I don’t let it get to me, but I do regret almost all of those decisions involving women. But overall, I’ve lived a happy life. My career was generally great, but my personal life not so much. However, I’m glad to be where I am – single (well, divorced), plenty of hobbies and interests to keep me very happy in my retirement and enough money to do very well even with the cost I absorbed with those women. And I just thankfully survived Irma unscathed here in Florida. What else do I need? This is a great group of guys. Although I don’t post all that much, I read regularly and have learned a lot even at my “experienced” age. Bless you guys!

Great Comment WA4SWJ, It’s double good that you are now at peace, and are keeping yourself busy in your retirement.
I wouldn’t ‘regret’ too many things, life’s too short, but we all LEARN, from our poor, but misinformed choices, (we were all just playing the game, that had been programmed into us, from birth).
Most of all, it’s good to know that we can all keep on learning, well into our mature years,……the ‘programming’ we as boys/men endured, is a hard one to de-programme,……eventually, mgtow seeps into our DNA, and will be THE TOOL, we use to help educate younger men.
Good for you being here Sir.
