I want to get this off my chest. It is still amusing me in a rather bleak way but it also explains so much.

At my work they have a meeting every week “out the back” which is where the leadership team sit. I sit with the plebs in the front room. With these leadership team meetings our manager will try and get one of us to come out and sit in with them.

I have done this once before and it was depressing. This meeting was no better.

So I walk in and the guy running the meeting is talking about Xmas and wants suggestions on what to buy his wife. I mean seriously, at the end of the meeting he asks everyone for suggestions. F~~~ off.

Then we get some bulls~~~ talk about USB’s and how we shouldn’t use them for personal things. Ok….

Then they bring in this c~~~ from another department to have a chat. It’s feeling like Primary School/Elementary school now, where the local Fireman or Cop comes in and talks to you. The first thing she asks is “What do you want me to talk about” too funny, they haven’t even told her what their plan was.

What a f~~~ing waste of everyone’s time and illustrates the lack of planning oh so well.

Our Team Lead then talks about some mustache contest on the work internet, we should all log on and pick the one we like. Uh huh.

Meanwhile I should be in the main room fielding calls as it is the busiest time of the morning. We deal with issue after issue, crisis, suicide attempts, people in distress, all manner of s~~~. We can’t breathe at times this calls are becoming so common.

    What a f~~~ing joke.

I wish I could be there with you.

It would mean I have a job, and we could commiserate more effectively.

    Cheer up amigo.

Been there. Luckily, I had a co-worker that would bail me out and barge into the meeting and say “dude, your son’s on the phone”. I would excuse myself and not come back. Miss those days. lol

Many Bosses have meetings for the sake of having meetings so they can report to their bosses that they have regular/weekly/biweekly or whatever type of meetings that they think makes THEM LOOK LIKE a Good Communicator/Effective Manager etc.

Like many things in the workplace; one must jump through certain hoops to keep the boss happy. Sound Familiar ??

Well I used to put up with this at the Veterans Administration, too. You might get some insight into the futility of all of it by checking out James Boren’s book on bureaucracy = When in Doubt, Mumble: A Bureaucrats Handbook.

    Here is the Amazon link.

Lawrence Peter’s book The Peter Principle: Why Things Always Go Wrong is another classic explaining the insanity of business.

Hey May72020 – Hope your employment situation improves soon. Sorry if my post sounded a little like “First world problems”. Just annoys me when we are really flat out at work and the bosses don’t have a clue but that is par the course and I am learning to care less and less everyday.

@awakened – Yes all too familiar!

@mgtow Taoist – We also have team building exercises like bring a plate day. So despite working for a billion dollar company we now have to bring food in to share with everyone. We rebel against that one.

@badger – Will check out the book.

May: The Peter Principle: Why Things Always Go Wrong is satire, but it give countless examples of how management screws things up by pursuing personal goals or ineffective I plans or tactics. It has been translated into as many or more languages as the Bible. It deals with the perversity of human nature. You can’t avoid these people, so you might as well learn about what they are doing in order to protect your personal area of work.
