Albertsons supermarket chain’s no-Spanish policy must go, feds say

A supermarket in Southern California harassed its Hispanic employees and subjected them to a hostile work environment by limiting when they could speak Spanish on the job, federal officials said Thursday.

In its lawsuit, the EEOC alleged that managers at an Alberstons store in San Diego barred Hispanic workers from speaking Spanish around non-Spanish speakers, even during breaks or when dealing with Spanish-speaking customers.

I tend to be a hardliner on immigration, and I’m not really for this bilingual s~~~, but it does conflict with freedom of expression, and I tend to lean in favor of more freedom, not less.

Talking about how a woman in another department was hot and getting graphic about it while laughing that their supervisor didn’t understand.

I had to deal with that crap when I rolled through a few parts of Arizona and southern California on my sky tour last winter.

The guys are always in groups with other guys because they are fckng p*ssies.

There was one incident where I got fuel off the freeway near a bad part of Phoenix and my dog was barking in my Jeep when I went in to pre-pay.

And a pack of them were standing outside laughing and one of them pointed at my dog while saying something in Spanish to his butt buddies and they all started laughing.

I knew the deal . Would have confronted him and dropped the fcker right there but with his pack of burritos hanging with him I wasn’t going to go down like a last stand at the Alamo.

I worked in restaurants for 10+ years

When they spoke to each other in Spanish, they were either talking s~~~ about me, or the other non hispanic guys in the kitchen. When they weren’t talking s~~~, they were talking about banging one of the server’s / hostesses. And they would f~~~ anything if given the chance. 12 year old girls up to 80 year old women, didn’t matter.

The chefs and managers all knew they were always talking s~~~ too. It really p~~~ed them off when we’d just smile at them and then speak to them in English.

I’m not fluent in Spanish but I knew enough to know they were always talking s~~~. And yes, they always have groups around them and if one jumps in a fight, the rest follow. Dirty fighter’s too, usually have some kind of blade or razor on them.

They came to the U.S. specifically to live off of the U.S. working classes. Well, the U.S. working classes almost broke, with only their guns and bibles to cling to. The only reason the U.S. working classes have not rebelled is because they were able to elect someone, President Trump, whom is doing a wonderful job of shining a light at the corruption.

But, the fact of the matter is the working classes are still broke and the welfare state is about to collapse.

When the welfare state collapses, the grocery stores are going to take a major economic hit from not getting their food stamp payments, especially in the large cities. Food stores will likely close in waves in the large cities. That is why things get interesting.

And even if the welfare state does not immediately collapse, Secretary of HUD Ben Carson is doing a wonderful job of cleaning of welfare, including doing his best to drop benefits for illegal invaders.

You know, you raise a good point… if a Civil War breaks out in the US, or WROL, the (mostly liberal) cities become vulnerable.

A clever military force would take advantage of the food issue to blow up bridges, cut off the food supply, and then make sure that modest amounts of poisoned food makes it into the cities. (in addition to cutting off electricity, sewage, garbage collection, and contaminating the water with cholera)

Imagine a group of urban scum leaving the city, foraging for food, and they see an abandoned car with food in it, and they break in, only to find out when it explodes that it was a trap and rigged with an IED.

The US has at least a hundred million people that are dead weight that never pulled their weight. This country would benefit long term from a good “burn” and debriding. A 5-year purge would buy at least 100 years of prosperity.

It’s not an issue of freedom of expression. They are welcome to express themselves any way they want when they are not on the clock. The reality is that when customers go to a store, they don’t want to hear another language spoken. As Sky-O pointed out, they don’t know if they are being insulted or what not. It comes off as rude. And it causes the customer to leave early and/or do their shopping elsewhere. So Albertson has every right to state what employees can and can’t do because it effects the bottom line.

Look at this way, Albertson also has the right to fire someone if the don’t speak Spanish to customers as well. It happens all the time when a company wants to be bilingual. No one ever complains about that.

That’s amazing that this happened in San Diego (i.e. North Tijuana). I remember hearing about a Russian guy who studied English before coming to the U.S. . He landed in San Diego and got a job as a dishwasher. His co-workers all spoke Spanish.

I liked San Diego; when I was there in the late 80’s in the Navy, it wasn’t complete s~~~.

Tijuana, though is kind of a f~~~ed up place. They had a chimp you could take pictures with that would drink beer. Then there were the prostitutes and the girls doing the sex-with-donkeys shows.

I remember I’d bought a computer game on floppy disk at the Navy Exchange, then when me and a buddy were in Tijuana, he bought about $300 of illegal fireworks he put in an athletic bag, and I bought some throwing stars which I put into the floppy disk sleeve. At customs, I said something about the floppy disk would get damaged by an x-ray so they just passed it through, but my buddy had his $300 of fireworks confiscated.

Ranger, you do not even need a civil war.

When the welfare state collapses, the welfare whores (both women and men living off of welfare) are mostly going to riot.

The state will spent so much of its forces keeping the major cities together, they will likely not to bother with rural and small town areas.

It is like what happened in World War II in Poland. Stalin let the Polish resistance and the German forces fight each other to the point of collapse. Then, Stalin had his Russian forces move into Poland and kill anyone left that would be a threat to him taking over Poland.

I feel torn on this one. Yeah, some will speak Spanish to talk about others behind their backs, knew one guy who hid the fact that he was a former Spanish teacher and they had no idea he understood everything they where saying.

But I also knew another guy who worked in an auto parts store and spoke Spanish (along with some other stuff too). He would take s~~~ for that from English speakers telling him to “speak American”. I was there getting an oil change and tune-up parts from him when he blew up at one boss busting his chops.

“Last time I checked, when it comes to sales figures, they are all in dollars. Not everything said in Spanish is about you. Maybe we spoke in Spanish because the poor guy is still learning English and doesn’t know the names of what he needs yet. If I stopped to give him an English lesson on the clock, you would bitch about that too !”

A lot of people are caught in the middle on this one. I have seen people come to this country and demand to only have to speak Spanish, but I saw people working their butts off to learn English the best they could too.

As they say- your mileage may vary. I learned not to judge too fast.
