I only have two days off per week but I still would like to take a quick getaway on my own to get a change of scenery. I live in Flori-duh and am open to suggestions on a nice place I can go where I dont need a car to get around just land, book the hotel, and be on my way. I would like a few good eateries, some sightseeing, and get the hell out. Im not too well traveled but since going my own way this has become a pursuit of mine. Any suggestions on someplace quick for 2 days(preferably east coast) and back to work on time while still being enjoyable for such a short stay. Thanks Brothers.

You could always get a hotel and visit Las Vegas. It feels great to walk around in the summer time (at night) and you don’t even need a car to visit any of the attractions (well, except for Red Rock) but you can even take a bus straight down from the strip to downtown and visit Freemont street as well.

But, if you’re going to gamble, the best places to do that is the Hard Rock Hotel, or Freemont street. The slots on the strip are the tightest.

As the others have already pointed out, your constraints – two days and no car rentals – mean you’ve only two choices: Party Destination or Wilderness/Chill.

Party Destinations include NYC, Vegas, NOLA, your own Miami, and so forth. Oddly enough, Vegas is probably the cheapest – as long as you don’t gamble. Everything about Vegas, including the air fare to get there, is designed to keep money in your pocket where the casinos can get it.

With a little effort, you can identify many smaller and cheaper Party Destinations closer to you, especially considering you’re in Florida home of the east coast Spring Break.

Wilderness/Chill is usually my preference, although I’m not averse to the Big Lights/Big City on occasion. Back in the 90s, I worked at the Turkey Point projects in Homestead for several months. My weekend routine involved driving into the Keys, renting a room somewhere, and vegging on the beach. I was able to find a place because one of the guys at the plant hooked me up with names. These days with AirBnB and other internet services, you should have little trouble finding some place quiet.

If you haven’t discovered hiking and camping yet, look into it. It’s my go-to weekend decompression activity.

Whatever makes you unwind and be at peace within yourself. Good thing you’re MGTOW as women make those two things impossible.

If I understand correctly he’s only talking about his weekends – typical two days. Would have recommended same , or head off into the desert (like Monument Valley) but that needs more than 2 days.

So every once in a while I make a weekend road trip with no map and no plan.

That’s a “MGTOW” getaway, and what’s cool about it is you don’t know what you’re gonna eat, or when, or when you need to take a s~~~, or fee like sleeping … you could drive all night. Who knows. And you never know who you might meet either.

A full tank. The open road, Just whats’ on my back change of socks, t-shirt underwear. Toothbrush. No razor. No map. No plan. One credit card. The phone is OFF in the car. I’ll pull over and grab a bite when I am hungry. Maybe get a hotel if I see one… or a motel…. or pull over in the desert and nap in the car.

I love it. Do it maybe 4 times year. I’ll head off into the general direction of a place and see where the road takes me. Some times I may pass some antique shops, or a museum or garage sale, or ANYTHING and I’ll pull over and may never even GET to the destination. Because the destination doesn’t matter. It’s not the point.

No schedule. No “plan”. No obligations. Just… to decompress.

Yeah, if he had more time, some place like Vegas would be the best bet if he wants to travel to the city.

But, I’d actually love to do that for a living. Just travel across the country without any map or plan in a car/truck/camper and do whatever the f~~~ I want. That would be awesome.

I used to live in Florida and made many similar trips.

My favorite destination was Hilton Head where I would stay at the Hyatt in Palmetto Dunes. Never needed a car.

Another cool weekend trip involved a trip to New Orleans where I would hop a river boat and do some gambling.

You are only limited by your imagination.

A trip to Bahamas would be nice. Good luck

I think ive struck oil. I like this idea because it could be budget friendly and use the cheap commute to get there but never gamble, just enjoy the nightlife and scenery.

Vegas is always good for a couple of days, I always thought the Carolinas were beautiful as well and they are close to where you live, a lot of history.

Forgot to add these two bits to my first post:

Check out both Lonely Planet and Rough Guides for ideas of where to go and what to see. I wish both sites had been around when I was traveling worldwide for business back in the 90s and 00s.

IIRC, Lonely Planet has a “What/Where in the US for 2016” focus currently which should give you lots of suggestions.

Depends on were you wanna go and your budget. You could possibly go somewhere in the carribean if you wanted to by boat. Or you could drive to houston or new orleans from there.

Just an east coast asshole who likes to curse, If you get offended by words like fuck, cunt, shit, piss, bitch or any racial slurs then you just scroll down.

I did that approximately one year ago. Jumped in the van at midnight and just drove way up north into the country and then back into the city, visiting landmarks and points of interest and getting lost in street mazes. It was 3:30am when I finally called it quits. But it was so amazing. Saw almost no vehicles, roads in city were deserted, totally quiet. It was so surreal, that I’ll never forget it. I gained much confidence in my ability to drive that night. Next time I do I’m going even farther.

Also have a road trip planned for June. Going to drive 3.5 hours to one of the Great Lakes and visit points of interest up and down the coast. It’s going to be fantastic.

One of my favorites I mentioned in another thread: Rustic Fine Dining.

In short, start taking short, simple road trips out of town, the internet can come in handy for looking for unique dining experiences. Keep an open mind.

Other made comments too. You might be surprised at what you can find near you.

Rustic fine dining in the countryside.
