Recently I brought up a topic about a break-down recurve bow and why I wanted one.

It was suggested that an adult Air-Rifle was a superior choice for SHTF.

While I agreed I still wanted a back-up that one could make his on ammo (if poorly) and got a bow. When the weather warms I plan to kill paper with it.

However, the advice of an adult Air-Rifle was solid so I picked one up.

It is a .22 calibre Air Rifle. Within range (if you are good enough) it will drop a wild pig. God help you if you don’t drop the f~~~er. They are mean as f~~~.

Anyway, some will say that a ‘real rifle’ is better and that would be correct…. I have ‘real rifles’
However, an air rifle is cheap to shoot (about $10 for a thousand rounds) and it most certainly can bring down big game.

Thx for the wise words brothers.

Eh, I have one. And I stock-pile ammo for the bitch.

    Here is the thing…..
    The AR-15 chambers a .223.
Not a bad round but at its best it is a medium (perhaps long) range varmint round.
In other words, a jack of all trades master of none.
Don’t get me wrong, I like my AR-15.

If I want to reach out and touch someone? I have better than the .223.
Up close and personal? I have better than the .223.
Need to clear a deck? I have better than the .223.
Pure power? I have better than the .223.
Now, if I wan’t to slay paper at minimal cost? I have better.

A .22 Air Rifle is not for combat or self defense.
It is (IMO) a cheap way to go target shooting and bring down small game in case TSHTF.

    Your millage may very.

I’ll give you that man. The 223/5.56 is a f~~~ing great round, can do almost anything…but it isnt necessarily the best for anything. But when shtf, that is for sure the rifle i am reaching for. I trust my ar15 in almost any situation, although it may be overkill for like small game and stuff like that.

As you said, individual mileage varies. I am a huge fan of .22lr as well, for what that’s worth. Useful in many of the same situations as the air rifle you described, and you could carry a s~~~ton of ammo easily. And easily one of my favorite rounds to shoot. People who dont shoot .22’s quite simply have NO IDEA how much fun they are missing out on, but it is actually extremely versatile as well.

    I cannot disagree.
Still, a Air Rifle is a budget way to have fun AND still be a back-up way to hunt small game.

Again, an Air Rifle would not be my first choice.
    Think about this…..
I can carry a thousand rounds+ in my front pocket and it only costs about $12 US.

Of course there are more powerful, accurate platforms.

Here is a fun bit. an Air Rifle is not considered a firearm (in the US). No back round check, no feds or state up in your s~~~. But still an effective tool.

Again, an air rifle would not be my goto but IMO makes an excellent back-up.

A good air rifle will get you small game with ease. And you can cast your own ammunition, which is a big plus in a SHTF scenario.

Are air rifles legal to own with those with DV orders? BB guns?

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

I love mine! .77 sonic, 1,300 fps with copper rounds! Throw in a drop or two of lighterfluid and it really packs a punch! Blows a squirrel’s guts out the exit side! I treat it with just as much respect and the same rules as a powder gun! Perfect for home rodent control (annihilation).
