In addition to Hawaii being the origin of Barack Obama’s worldview and the epicenter of currently failing leftist judicial attempts to block President Trump from implementing a temporary travel ban from known terrorist and extremist nations, now Hawaii has the distinction of being home to an active duty soldier arrested while attempting join ISIS.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An active duty Hawaii soldier has been arrested for allegedly trying to provide material support and training to the Islamic State.

FBI special agents and SWAT arrested Ikaika Erik Kang, 34, on Saturday evening at his Waipahu apartment.

Authorities said they believe Kang was a “lone actor,” and “not associated with others who present a threat to Hawaii.”

“Kang has been under investigation by the U.S. Army and the FBI for over a year,” said Honolulu FBI Special Agent in Charge Paul D. Delacourt. “FBI assets and Army investigative resources were continuously deployed to ensure the public’s safety during the course of this investigation and Kang’s eventual arrest.”

Kang is with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.

He was deployed to Iraq in 2010, and served in Afghanistan in 2014, according to his military service record.

A criminal complaint filed in federal court alleges that Kang swore allegiance to ISIS, attempted to provide military documents to ISIS, and attempted to provide training to the terrorist organization.

While not fake news, it is certainly not news in and of itself. It’s just a slow news day worldwide which therefore makes this a front section news article.

Remember, if you look long enough on the internet you will find something that someone thinks is news worthy. It’s all about putting words to print and getting attention for the news organization and the writer.

There have been numerous current and former US Military members who have either attempted to join or support (Anderson in WA), have joined (Harrison), or conducted terrorist acts in the US (Hasan Ft Hood).

While Kang has relevant individual soldier skills that could be taught on a small group level to bad guys, it’s MMA combat and not weapons of mass destruction that he had to offer.

As an senior air traffic control NCO, his knowledge and training were very specialized and implemented only with sophisticated equipment. Not something easily replicated in the desert or used within a 1st world country.

This is a very unfortunate incident for the military as it is very bad press and I agree that he/they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

This is not an isolated event however and really has nothing to do with the soldiers duty station.

There are always objectors within every organization, including the government and military. Remember Eric Snowden? You only hear about him these days when it’s a slow news day and he is no longer alone in leaking gov secrets.

Kang served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and could have been radicalized there, Korea or anywhere else his duty took him. The FBI were aware of him since at least 2011. He is on record as being pro-Islam several times.

Who knows… perhaps when Chelsea Clinton (or one of the Obama fem spawn) is President he will be awarded a 10 million dollar settlement for the mean old government depriving him of his political freedom by stopping him from passing on gov secrets to a terrorist organization.
