So I saw this clip a while back, and decided to save a copy of it to watch whenever I am feeling low or unhappy about my circumstances.

For me, a truly amazing human being who should serve as inspiration and hope to all of us. If he can find hope and reason to be positive facing such adversity every single day then we all can.

Sadly Sam Berns passed away, aged just 17 years old – but I feel made a contribution to this world far beyond his years in raising hope and awareness for others. Just an epic dude who is a legend in my book.

If only more people had a kind heart like this and weren’t obsessed with consumerism, status, ego, image and self. Always inspires me to grow as a person and try to change my attitude for the better.

raising hope and awareness for others

Exactly…not just about his condition….but mainly about keeping a positive mindset…whether people suffer from progeria or not.

A tranquil mind is neither happy nor sad, it is uninfluenced by external conditions.

Definitely Mike. I think it is a message that can benefit anyone. Everyone going through something, some worse than others. But we all have personal demons to fight. For me there is Red Pill rage and some insecurities which I am still trying to conquer and get out of my system. I am getting there, but it’s a slow process. I find listening to someone like this just helps to put these insecurities into perspective and focus on all of the positive things that I do have to be grateful for, rather than focusing on what I don’t have all of the time.

Thank You very much for posting this video about Sam. He is such an inspiration even now after his passing. How wonderfully professional and kind hearted the man was!

do have to be grateful for, rather than focusing on what I don’t have all of the time.

Exactly. My biggest insecurity is OCD and trying to perfect things. This mainly manifests in building computers and putting together a flawless PC, which I can use to get work done. This, as I can see now, is 100% impossible and a destructive expectation. Computers and electronics engineering is all I have in my life, so I can guess that this is why I put so much energy into these two areas. Going out and spending money on brand new computer parts only leads to more stress/anxiety and aggravating the whole scenario.

I am now training my mind to be as resourceful as possible, by being content with what I have and making full use of them (in this case it is computer parts). This, to me, is true engineering and can help me a lot to manage my OCD. I find this method, of being resourceful and using what I have, a lot more satisfying than buying brand new parts. It’s like being stranded on an island, like in the movie “Castaway”, and using EVERY little resource, wood/coconuts/leaves etc to build a fire/living space etc. You feel good about your accomplishments because you have been very appreciative of what is available to you and you made the most of it.

    The benefits of being resourceful:

1.) I am creating something with my own effort (using existing computer parts to build a fully functioning PC that I can use to get work done effectively)
    2.) I am saving money
    3.) I am reducing clutter

Thanks again for the video and your comment.

Yep, to have that much drive and work ethic .. when it would be so easy to just give up on life. Amazing.

Awesome post Mike.. thanks! I can totally relate, have always been a perfectionist… to the extent that is has helped me master some skills but held me back in other areas of my life. Being resourceful a great approach, is amazing what you can achieve with very little if you are pro-active.

And I gotta do it.. Wiiiiilson! Totally gonna watch Castaway again later lol
