Not too sure where to stick this one so shift/delete if needed.

Do any of you think it would be possible to get a “copyright” on your own genome and therefore enable you to issue a “licence” for the purposes of reproduction?

Hypothetically if it was possible to then would that mean that if a “woman” was to get up the duff without your written consent then would that constitute copyright infringement?

    Thoughts?

give a limitted number of genes and the 4 aminoacids that only work in certain combinations of 2 each, the number of possible combinations is limitted. Certain combinations won’t work at all, downsizing the number of reproductive units furter.
There are calculations, that indicate a 1 out of 1 billion chance for a certain combination, which reaches reproductive age and is within the range of accepted limits enough to be able to find a mate.

Given there 7 billion people in the world, a genome is statistically identical in 7 people. Now who gets the “copyright”?

I was more thinking to narrow it down to use the 23th pair to key in the results. Correct me if i am wrong but due to the fact that a man’s X and Y chromosome do not engage in gene swapping this should help with identifying the correct “holder”.

Your point does still have merit though, particularly with the case of identical twins/triplets/etc (although if there are any major breakthroughs with epi-genetics that might solve the problem). This would actually be one of the roadblocks to getting anything like this passed so glad you brought it up.

Sorry Copyright is a form of intellectual property, applicable to certain forms of creative work. HOWEVER here is a counter theory for you other legal beagles out there. How about an action for “conversion”?

    conversion
    n. a civil wrong (tort) in which one converts another’s property to his/her own use, which is a fancy way of saying “steals.” Conversion includes treating another’s goods as one’s own, holding onto such property which accidentally comes into the convertor’s (taker’s) hands, or purposely giving the impression the assets belong to him/her. This gives the true owner the right to sue for his/her own property or the value and loss of use of it, as well as going to law enforcement authorities since conversion usually includes the crime of theft.

Something to think about for the guys who get sperm-jacked!

Although there do exist copyrights on life, so far it is only artificially created life. In that context only would it make sense to be called intellectual property. And of course, a human being cannot be considered property…because that’s slavery.

I do like Pistol Pete’s idea, although it still needs some work to get there. It’s somewhat of a stretch to call ‘sperm’ property that could be stolen. However, it is definitely a crime to steal organs and blood without consent. The difference is that sperm does not have the same genetic makeup as the individual (maybe not an issue) and that in most cases, the sperm is freely given. At the very least, the sperm is not retained by the owner. If I were to throw away a piece of furniture, or even a pint of blood, in the trash, is it theft to remove the furniture or blood and use as you see fit. Is my disposal a relinquishing of ownership.

And if it is deemed to be theft, what’s the recourse? Forced abortion, fines, removal of parental responsibility.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to go down this route either. I think parental responsibility is really what needs to be looked into. I’d rather take it head on then through some side issue, where you’re going to eventually have to deal with the problem head on anyway.

    Ok. Then do it.

I’m of the opinion that it’s like anything you put on the internet, once it leaves your control it’s hard to establish ownership.

Get the snip and a negative test and there is no worry of long expensive legal matters concerning copyright infringement.

I failed to realize in my youth that I was the prize. I was going to work. I was going to earn. Little did I realize that due to feminism, that no longer meant I had to share. Road soon, Desert after.

    Wow. Mind = blown.

I was recently speaking with a friend about “suing a wife for breach of marriage contract” and we don’t quite have it down yet, but THIS is a whole other level. Copyrighting your sperm.

It’s likely to fall into her ownership as soon as it’s deposited between her legs, just like all other legal dynamics to women, s~~~, they not only becume the owner of the sperm, they become the OWNER OF THE DEPOSITOR!

There’s no winning outside of just not playing the game. The best legal investment is a vasectomy…

AH HA you know where I’m heading here—Woman “converts” a man’s sperm (without his knowledge or consent) gets pregnant to rope him in. He sues for conversion and then as a settlement she must agree to forfeit her rights to child support. I think this could work!

Would be near enough impossible to prove that the sperm was taken from you without consent.

Although, women don’t have to offer any evidence that it was given to them without theirs.

    Amazing idea though.

not a single bad rebuttal or point, nice.

I do not know whether or not it would work or not or how you would enforce it on the woman, although i did say in writing but still if they can wriggle out of “affirmative consent laws” then it still would be a risk she could pull a fast one on you (unless Monsanto were to take an interest and send some of their enforcement lawyers to help you).

PistolPete, i was not aware of conversion so that maybe a perfect substitute for my idea.

although the general advice of “get snipped” and “don’t play the game” is still the best way to go.

but anyway this idea is just a thought i had while waiting for a animation to finish rendering so hopefully it gave people something to think about.

so hopefully it gave people something to think about.

It’s certainly got me thinking. A lot of time has been spent pondering the wrongs in this gynocentric existence.

A little creativity might be all that’s needed to make some rights.
