One of the things I love to do year around is riding my bike (shirtless above 70 degrees) around for a few hours after taking Amino Energy and CLA Core. The bike I have is just OK, but I’ve been looking at other bikes at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and I found a few possible ones I might get next month or two.

    Possible Bike #1 (Red/titanium colors):

Possible Bike #2 (Dark Gray – Very Sexy – Most likely going for):

These are just maybe’s, because I might be buying a 4K UHDTV soon in February, a possible bike in March and a possible PS4 in April with my next election paycheck.

you work out and you want to show off yer bro bod, and you want to do it on a s~~~ty big box bike?
Do you buy your I want to look good clothes from Sears?

Go to a real bike store and get fitted. It makes a huge difference. Says the former Cat 2 bike racer.

F~~~ the color, its the fit that matters. Best bike I ever had was a magenta and gray racing bike until the c~~~ sold it for $5. Fit was perfect, gear set was perfect and the feel was incredible.

A good bike should cost no less than $600. spend more than $2000 and you are getting into poseur territory.

Something from a department store will look great hanging on the garage wall in a couple months.

You spend real money on a bike and you will want return on investment. You will ride it more.

my favorite bike right now is an ugly green gray matte finish ugly thing with 29 inch wheels…omg this thing is a f~~~ing tank, and it is slow as s~~~. The ability to go over curbs, roots and small children is incredible. The real speed in this thing comes from its ability to keep going when I would be tempted to get off and carry the thing.

nice thing about the bike shop is they can upgrade a good bike into a great bike with different pedals, saddle, pulleys, tires and grips.

The dudes at the bike shop will hook you up with good information, trails and probably a weekly ride.

Or you can by your bike from some guy named dick.

    Suggestion:

When I was back in Ill several years ago–and in a suburb near your location they had a “trash-forgiveness” day. Apparently it is a day in which Anything put out on the curb will be collected.
(unlike the south where if you can drag it to the dump in it goes) People were showing up wiht U-hauls to grab other folks “garbage”.

There was all kinds of useful stuff people were just throwing away and at least two people were tossing out what looked to me anyway like really nice bikes. Now I don’t know anything about bikes but the person I was with used to custom re-build bikes and she swore both were worth over a grand each. I tossed them into my car and drove off to her place…never saw her or the bikes again but the point is there…why spend money when you don’t have to?

I’m not taking in old trash when I can have a fresh bike that I have confidence in that it’ll be worthy. Besides, bikes bought from a store are covered under warranties, when a trash bike you have to pay for whatever is wrong with them.

    Not a good idea.

lol curb finds are good finds…people throw away bikes because the brakes squeak…super easy to fix.

Trash bike can go back to the curb when they fail.

Get the bike you want, but a bike shop will make you feel like a million bucks…Dicks bike guy is who ever showed up for work that day.

I think dicks/bass pro/cabellas bikes are the kind of bike you sling on the back of the RV and take off when you want to ride around the park. They are a little better than Walmart, but not by much. Or the kind of bike you buy a college age kid to take to a higher tier state school.

    this is what I have

Bike was $800, extra components were another $200. Now it is indestructible, fits nice, everything works. all day ride comfortable…I’ve done 5 centuries on this bike last year. This fall it is going to be the way I get to work.

    I agree with May 7.
I’ve had a Canondale M400 for 20 years. It fits me like a glove. I’ve rebuilt it a couple of times.

Here is the deal. Weight is the enemy on a bike. It’s more effort expended to ride the heavier the bike weighs.
The bike ratio is – less weight = more $$$.
When you buy a bicycle you are paying for the absence of weight.

Spend the cash on a bike shoppe bike. You’ll thank yourself.

    Just rolling down the road

Those bike shop bikes are expensive. I don’t see why I should break the bank for a bike. Although there was a shop bike I saw last September I thought was good, but I forgot what it was and what it went for.

It’s macroeconomics. Most cannot afford a house anymore, and every apartment has to have an effing bicycle hanging somewhere like Seinfeld’s, so might as well make it an asinine expensive one to feel societally successful and all (srcsm).

The best bike is the one you love riding, no matter the price. However, if biking is your thing, like it is for quite a few guys here, then I agree with may 7 2020, that a good new bike starts at $600.00.

But if you’re patient, and you keep an eye on Craigslist for good, used bikes, then you can find one of those $600.00 bikes that’s a couple of years old for perhaps $200.00.

My stable consists of these two bikes:

2013 Surly, Pugsley, that’s set up for bikepacking and commuting to work on.

    null

2015 Specialized, Camber, for super-fast and fun singletrack rides.

    null

Whatever bike you choose, though, make sure you post a pic of it when you bring it home, because I’d love to see it. Good luck!

Actually there was nothing wrong with the “curb” bikes except each had a flat tire, and I was told very very thin racing bike tires were very expensive.

But hey if you got the cash$ go for broke. To me a bike is like a car—all that matters is that it gets you from point A to point B—anything else is just icing.
