Senator Rand Paul wins damages after neighbour attack

Rene Boucher, 60, pleaded guilty to attacking the senator in November 2017.

The argument arose over the Republican’s habit of leaving garden waste on the border of their properties in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

A court awarded the senator $375,000 in punitive damages, $200,000 for pain and nearly $8,000 for medical costs.

Mr Boucher’s lawyer said his client would appeal against the decision.

He had already received a $10,000 fine and a 30-day prison term last June.

US senator Rand Paul assaulted at home

In a tweet, Mr Paul said the lawsuit was “about all of us and what we find acceptable as a society”.

Mr Paul, the junior senator for Kentucky, is a Tea Party supporter and ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 .

The attack however was not politically motivated.

Mr Boucher said he had become irritated by the way the conservative senator left garden waste near the grounds of his home.

——————-This is why there will be no civil war. As much as the legal system is hated it will be used to take the money away from the supporters of groups like antifa. This case says not politically motivated, you know there had to be some involved, you just don’t tackle a man for leaves.

Good. Hopefully, he doesn’t lose it in the appeal.

This is just one reason why I hate neighbors and people in general.

The evil in women’s hearts leaves them no moral bounds as to inhibit them from descending to the lowest levels of darkness to acquire their self entitled desires.

He should take the money from winning to build a wall toward the other guys property. Just one lengrh of wall on that side of his house. nothing fancy just a 4ft to 5ft. And set it toward his own house so he can drop the clippings on the other side but still on his property.

Long as it’s on his own property that’s what matters.

Or just get the side of the wall toward his house finished with some obnoxious color or sports team logo the other guy hates.

Hope that someday I may lead others the path I have learned. As Virgil led Dante through Hell.

That’s some crafty thinking. I like it.

I’m losing respect for Paul on this one. I have absolutely no problem with getting $8k for medical bills (although that seem excessive), but punitive and pain seem ridiculous to me. Don’t know what kind of pain he had, but being that he’s a politician, I doubt it kept him from doing his job. No need for punitive at all, unless we’re saying that the neighbor is loaded and $8k means nothing to him. Then fine, give the punitive damages to charity.

And ‘this is about all of us’? B.S. All of us don’t need to be put in life long debt just because we lost our temper.

    Ok. Then do it.

Obviously the guy had some money, or it would have never went to civil court…but I’m a little confused as to how he got awarded over a half million. Did the guy burn down his house and blow up his car in the process? A few scrapes and bruises aren’t worth what it takes the average person 10 years to earn. If it was some random 20 year old hood rat with no money, no lawyer would have wasted their time taking it to civil court, but this guy obviously had some so he gets extra butt f~~~ed on the deal?

For as much as Rand Paul likes to bitch about big government he certainly had no issue using big government to his advantage here.

I would vote for Rand Paul if he ran for president.

"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)
